Within the Ministry of the Treasury are 120 Aedilis who supervise spending of money from the treasury, giving them the reverse role of the quaestores. Whenever any Imperial funds are appropriated, an aedile must be consulted; consequently, the emperor always has three or four at hand. Furthermore, one or two will usually be sent to the construction sites of public monuments to ensure efficient spending of government funds.

Pro-Aediles
Pro-aediles are a purely nominal magistracy which are assigned to priests of the Caphiric Church upon their ordination. During the period of the Third Imperium, they were created by the aediles in order to administer public finance, but these roles were gradually eliminated as part of a streamlining of public administration. Following the Great Schism of 1615, these positions were filled by Imperial priests as they were viewed to be loyal to the regime. After that point, the office of pro-aedile became closely associated in the public imagination and in law with that of priest, such that it now exercises no public function but is assigned to the priest as a symbolic gesture of his responsibility to state and community.
