Paulastrans view themselves as a single, Paulastran ethnicity, although most Paulastrans and even the official census department differentiate based on "pre-independence heritage". This means that most Paulastrans define themselves officially as either Levo-Paulastran (relating to [[Urcean people|Urcean]] or Levantine ancestry) or Kiro-Paulastran (relating to [[Coscivian_civilisation#People|Coscivian]] ancestry), but most scholars agree these definitions do not reflect any real division in society or national culture.
