The history of the Cartadanian Armed Forces dates back to the 16th century when the Cartadanian Army was formed as an autonomous reporting unit of the Caphirian Imperial Legion, a unit known as the Legio Septentrionalis ({{literal translation|Red Legion}}). Its role was primarily the defense of East Cognatia, today what is Cartadania. In 1603, the Cartadanian Navy and Marine Corps were jointly formed under the autonomous government, pre-establishing Cartadania's naval and amphibious forces, though they still fell within the realm of the Imperium. Cartadania's navy, in particular, can actually trace its history to the mid-1400s, when the southern realm of the region began naval power projection efforts to expand the state. It wasn't incorporated as a formal body, however, until its present-standing date.
