Kingdom of Gassavelia (1071-1560)
[9:38 PM]
Formed out of Hištanšahr, Gassavelia was integrated into the Holy Levantine Empire as a condition of the Pope legitimizing the new Catholic dynasty. Gassavelia was a powerful check against Urcea and was one of the most powerful states in the southern Empire. Western Gassavelia was primarily made up of mestizos while the east was primarily the Gaelic-Latin stock of the rest of Levantia. Pseudo-Nestorianism began to pop up in the western half 13th Century, and when the Protestant Reformation began, the Kingdom of Gassavelia adopted Protestantism lead by the mestizo population, while the eastern part of the Kingdom remained staunchly Catholic. Gassavelia was destroyed during the Great Confessional War, as the Catholic-loyal eastern part of the country was conquered by Matthaeus the Turncoat and became Faramount, while the western half became part of Urcea. The western half was gradually converted under Urcean domination but was allowed to retain its unique cultural traditions. Gassavelia today is smaller than its original boundary but remains an autonomous state under the Urcean Crown
