Notes

-Ereglas or its puppet nation elect (possibly dubiously) a GaelWind-sympathetic party or leader into power in whatever election comes on/just before 1990, and attempts to secede, expecting Fhainnin support. This is due to erosion of gaelic standing in the coalition/an independence movement in Trenthanon joining up with the dominant pangaelic organization in Prevalia. Galeic states in Rivia are split between secessionists and loyalists, with secession slowly winning out on the field at first due to military sympathies and foreign aid.

-Fhainnin support does come, and the issue becomes a matter of pushing for the liberty of a Gaelic nation in Faneria's politics, with arms being smuggled in. This puts the Rievans in a bind trying to block shipping around a major trade hub (the Canal), which Faneria abuses (by using the local shipping and monitoring disruptions from the uprising as a cover for sending materials and volunteers). Faneria supports gaelic independence but not annexation of splitting territories into Faneria due to its need to balance relations with the LU (later, this will be characterized in foreign press as trying to annex the region, but that is a minority opinion throughout the crisis on both sides of the Canal)

- after a few months, revolutionary Ereglas is losing its southern coast to the reorganizing Ereglasian Guard supported by other Rievan troops, while the north is stuck. Ereglasian auxillia infiltrate and attempt to blow out parts of the Vandarch Canal to force Faneria and others to intervene publicly (and possibly to pin it on Rievan forces trying to reduce supplies to the rebels, ensuring they go to war with Rieva). Faneria's mood switches radically against them as a result, and they recall their special forces and those volunteers that will listen before landing troops and beginning strikes with Rievan approval against the rebels, starting near the canal to secure the shipping lane. Yonderre/the LoN garrison is not consulted, creating a week-long international panic that Faneria is trying to seize the Canal and overrun western Rieva.

- rebels are crushed in short order, and there are severe diplomatic consequences for the warhawks at home in Faneria. In Prevalia/Rieva, this forces a constitutional change or reform of some sort.
