Usage
This template is designed for articles about Roman forts on the limes, the Roman frontier in Europe. The majority of these articles are being translated from German Wikipedia and this template facilitates the conversion and translation of its German equivalent into English Wikipedia. In due course, it is intended that an English language version of the template will be created and this one will become a pivot table that will continue to support translated articles.
Image
Currently the template works fine if an image (under the "Bild" parameter) is inserted. For some reason, if there is no image, it displays 'colspan="2"'.

Parameters
- Name (name): usually the name of the article. This often comprises the modern settlement or field location name and the word "fort" (Kastell). In cases, where the specialist literature predominantly prefers another name (e. g. the ancient name), then this parameter is needed. Example: de:Kastell Wimpfen im Tal <-> de:Asciburgium.
- Alternativname (ancient name): the ancient name of the fort. For example, de:Kastell Weißenburg was known in Roman times as Biriciana.
It may also be a modern alternative name, as long as that is common in the specialist literature (e.g.: Kastell Feldberg <-> de:Kastell Kleiner Feldberg <-> Feldbergkastell). - Limes (limes section): default ORL → number and section
- RLK number: number of the fort in the order in which it is found in the limes, as laid down by the Imperial Limes Commission (Reichslimeskommission) or RLK. Forts that were not excavated and documented by the RLK are not given an entry. Caution: The German Limes Commission (Deutsche Limeskommission) is a marketing association whose numbering scheme is not mandatory!
- Strecke (section, according to the RLK): Section description according to the ORL/RLK. Where there isn't one, enter under Abschnitt below.
- Abschnitt (section): naming according to (later) researchers / present description
- Datierung (Belegung) (date of occupation): from (year) to (year). May be modified with the word "around".
- Typ (type): Military function or, at least, the occupying military unit or formation e.nbsp;g. 'cohort fort', 'ala fort' or 'numerus fort'.
- Einheit (unit): name of the unit or formation, if known. Otherwise a description. Examples: Ala I Hispanorum Auriana or unknown partly mounted cohorts
- Größe (size): Dimensions (length × width) and/or area (ha or m²).
- Bauweise (design): material used for outer fortifications, e. g. 'wood and earth fort or 'stone fort
- Erhaltungszustand (surviving condition): current condition within the terrain, e.g.: 'partly reconstructed', 'terrain contours' or 'built on'.
- Ort (place): name of the nearest modern settlement. Does not have to match the name of the fort.
- Geographische Lage (geographical location): Area coordinates based on the Wikipedia schema.
- Breitengrad and Längengrad (latitude and longitude): the WGS84 coordinates for the fort. See also Template:Coord.
- Region-ISO (ISO region): the ISO 3166-1 code or ISO 3166-2 code of the fort. For forts that lie on the boundary of 2 regions, the value may comprise two or more ISO codes separated by "/". e. g.
DE-BW/DE-BY
for a fort on the border between Baden-Würtemberg and Bavaria. See also Template:Coord. - Unauffindbar (unlocatable): If relevant text is entered here, no coordinates will be display and no location request will be generated.
- Poskarte (position map): name of an alternative position map. If the fields Breitengrad and Längengrad are completed, the standard Region-ISO position map may be overwritten. The special word "none" will suppress the generation of a position map.
- Höhe (height): height in m above sea level (Normalnull)
- Vorhergehend (previous): name (and ORL number) of the previous fort in the limes with compass direction. Example: N: ORL 54/55 Wimpfen im Tal fort
- Anschließend (following): name (and ORL number) of the following fort in the limes using the same schema.
- Rückwärtig (behind): name (and ORL number) of the fort behind it in the limes using the same schema.
- Vorgelagert (in front): name (and ORL number) of nearest fort in the limes using the same schema.
- Siehe auch (see also): List of forts on the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes and other relevant links
- Nebenbox (sub-box): if this parameter is set, for the whole the creation of article elements outside the box can be suppressed, such as article coordinates. This is necessary if more than one box is used in an article. All other boxes must be tagged with Nebenbox=yes.
Example: de:Kastell Heilbronn-Böckingen
