Parameter names and descriptions

Parameter name	Usage	Description
MSA_name	required	The name that appears on the top of the infobox
name	required	The common name of the metro area
map	optional	The name of an image to use as a map of the area; map = Example.jpg
map_caption	optional	Optional caption text to display below the image
largest_city	optional	The most populous city in the metro area
other_cities	optional	Other cities in the metro area
coordinates	optional	geographic coordinates
rank_us	optional	Where this metro area ranks in List of metropolitan statistical areas; example: |rank_us=5th
population	optional	Total population of the metro area
density_mi2	optional	Population density in square miles. Auto-converted to display square kilometers if density_km2 is empty.
density_km2	optional	Population density in square kilometers. Auto-converted to display square miles if density_mi2 is empty.
area_mi2	optional	Area in square miles (a number, no units). Auto-converted to display square kilometers if density_km2 is empty.
area_km2	optional	Area in square kilometers (a number, no units). Auto-converted to display square miles if area_mi2 is empty.
country	required	The country this metro area is in – there's at least one usage of this template for a non-US metro area
