Guide to parameters
Top fields
- name: Required field. All others (excl. "updated") are optional. The player's current name as it is usually listed on team rosters.
- image: Use the format . If no image, you can use <!-- only free-content images are allowed for depicting living people – see WP:NONFREE -->, or leave blank
- updated: Required field. Date format should be consistent with those of other dates in the article: for most articles, this means "day month year" format. Appears at bottom of infobox. Use

or
.
Personal information
- full_name: If different from the player's most common name (e.g., Elizabeth Ellis vs Liz Ellis). Also required for maidenname
- maidenname: Requires full_name (even if "full_name" is identical to "name")
- birth_date: The recommended template to use is . But if death_date is included, use instead.
- birth_place: Where possible, use the format Town/city, Country.
- death_date: The recommended template to use is .
- death_place: See birth_place.
- height: The subject's height measured in metres (or centimetres) when using the metric system or in feet and inches when using the imperial system. Use
X.XX m
,XXX cm
, orX ft Y in
. The infobox will automatically display the appropriate conversion within parentheses. This parameter also accepts conversions done via the templates such as Convert or Height. - school: Most recent secondary school, where available.
- university: Only use if player is currently studying at university.
- occupation: Only use if the player's occupation has been published in reliable sources. This can also include "Student".
- spouse: Multiple spouses can be listed, preferably with years married (where available).
- married_date: Only use where the date has been published. Dates should not be wikilinked.
- children: Only use where information on the player's children has been published in reliable sources.
- relatives: Only use if the relative has a Wikipedia article. Also include that person's relationship with the player, in brackets. For example, Nicole Aiken (sister).
Netball career
- See Example infobox below for use of <br/> delimited lists.
- positions: Playing position(s) for the player's most recent team, and any other positions for which the player is notable. Use abbreviations: e.g.,
GD, WD
.
Domestic career
- clubyears1: Years playing for each domestic team.
- clubteam1: Domestic teams. List teams in order from earliest to latest.
- clubapps1: Matches played for each domestic team
International career
- nationalyears1: Years playing for each national team.
- nationalteam1: National teams, including Opens, U21 and U19 teams and squads. List teams in order from earliest to latest.
- nationalcaps1: Test caps (so far, this does not include fastnet caps) for each national team.
Coaching career
- coachyears1: Years coaching each team, both national and domestic.
- coachteam1: National or domestic teams coached, sorted by year.
Medal record
- medaltemplates: This parameter includes a medal table based on the medal templates documentation. To create a medal record table, insert a new blank line immediately below the
|medaltemplates=
parameter, and add the following sub-headings and awards:- MedalCountry: requires one parameter, the country that the player has represented. The parameter can be added in one of several different formats: e.g., Australia, AUS, Australia. This can be used multiple times, where a player has represented more than one country.
- MedalCompetition}: requires one parameter, an international competition in which this player has won a medal, representing a particular country. Currently, this can include Netball World Championships, Commonwealth Games, World Netball Series or Nations Cup. This can be used multiple times, where a player has won a medal in more than one of the abovementioned competitions.
- MedalGold: used if a player has won a gold medal at any of the abovementioned competitions. This requires two parameters: the first is a piped link showing the year and location, and linking to the event (e.g., 2006 Melbourne); the second parameter is always Netball, which must be included for formatting reasons. This can be used multiple times, where a player has won more than one gold medal.
- MedalSilver: used if a player has won a silver medal at any of the abovementioned competitions. Parameters and multiple uses are the same for MedalGold.
- MedalBronze: used if a player has won a bronze medal at any of the abovementioned competitions. Parameters and multiple uses are the same for MedalGold.
- Note that MedalTableTop, MedalSport, and MedalBottom are not used in this infobox.
More general instructions can be found at Template:Medal templates documentation#Sub headings. It is not unusual for players to win medals for different countries at different competitions in different years. Medals are grouped first by country, then by competition (Netball World Championships first, followed by Commonwealth Games, then World Netball Series, then Nations Cup), and then sorted by year (earliest to latest). An example of this can be seen below.
Example medal record
Consider the following situation:
Irene van Dyk won a silver medal at the Netball World Championships in 1995 for South Africa. In 2000, she moved to New Zealand and started playing for their national netball team. In 2002, van Dyk won a silver medal for NZ at the Commonwealth Games. She won her first gold medal for NZ at the 2003 World Championships. In 2006 van Dyk won a gold medal for NZ at the Commonwealth Games, and the following year won a silver medal for NZ at the World Championships in 2007. She played for NZ in the inaugural World Netball Series in 2009, where she picked up a gold medal.
In this case the order of sub-headings and awards is as follows:
- South Africa
- Netball World Championships
- 1995 Birmingham
- New Zealand
- Netball World Championships
- 2003 Kingston
- 2007 Auckland
- Commonwealth Games
- 2002 Manchester
- 2006 Melbourne
- World Netball Series
- 2009 Manchester
These sub-headings and awards, once properly formatted, are added to the "Medal record" section of the infobox as below:

Microformat
The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.
Sub-templates
Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if birth date, or birth date and age are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.
To include a URL, use URL.
Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.
