Tonic Vineyards (Kiravic Coscivian: Imbola-Fèmralana, Low Coscivian: Ṃbola) is an urban slum located in a disused industrial area in the Aspihar canton of Valēka, Kaviska. Since the 21201 evacuation and levelling of the Polanintuv Downs slum in Escarda, Tonic Vineyards is reported to be the largest slum in Great Kirav by population. The name of the neighbourhood references the low-cost caffeinated tonic wine consumed by its inhabitants, discarded bottles of which are ubiquitous along the slum's streets, most of which have accrued a layer of crushed green bottle glass over their pavement.

History

The land that would become Tonic Vineyards was originally a low-lying meadowland in which the aboriginal Tapkek inhabitants of the village of Shiihi-opu-s'thaka (now the middle-class Śipuskoa neighbourhood of Aspihar) would often hunt for waterfowl. As the Coscivian settlement of Great Kirav began, the area was divided between the estates of the Erasan Coscivian Kortvan family and the Sedhan Coscivian Gallikas family.

Demographics

Comprehensive data on the population and demographic profile of the Vineyards is scant, and official statistics such as those obtained by the Kiravian Census Bureau or the Valēka Public Housing Authority are thought to be inaccurate. Many residents are unwilling to speak with census enumerators or other data collectors for a variety of reasons, including that many are living in Kiravia illegally or have outstanding criminal charges, and even those with clean records are distrustful of the civil authorities. Much of the population is transient, so the demographics of the Vineyards are in a state of constant flux.

According to one study conducted at Fāstervon Jesuit University, the ethnic makeup of Tonic Vineyards is 38% Coscivian (mainly Trash Coscivian), 10% Celtic, 14% Urom, 12% Continental Ixnayan or Audonian, 5% Hoszar, and 18% assorted others.

The lingua franca of the slum is Low Coscivian, and the dialect spoken in the Vinyeards is the best-studied variety of the Low Coscivian language. Estimates of the population as of 21208 range from XX,000 to XX,000.
