Charles LeMieux is a Calderan politician and the current President of the Calderan Republic. He was originally elected in the 2034 Austro-Caldera Prime Leader election where he was the first Prime Leader since Joeseph Seuber to not be a member of the Volkspartei. He is famous for conducting a massive array of reformations in the Calderan government, including drastic changes such as changing the Calderan flag, official name, office names, legislature name, and adopting Burgoignesc as an official language of Caldera, despite being spoken by an incredibly minute portion of the population. It is because of this that he was rejected by the Yellow Party, which had the party goal of making Caldera a multi-party democracy. Although this goal was accomplished earlier when Prime Leader Adian Vandal rewrote the Calderan constitution to allow any party to take the position of Prime Leader.

Early life and career

Charles LeMieux was born on August 4, 2003, in the rural town of Ugdon, Caldera. Born to 18 year old Calderan mother Ann Dunstein and 27 year old Burgoignesc father Jean LeMieux, his parents met at a Volin language class in Little Caldera, and married 6 months before Charles was born.

In late August 2003, a few weeks after he was born, Charles and his mother moved to the University of Caldera in Neu Maessen, where they lived for a year. During that time, Charles' father completed his undergraduate degree in Volin language in Little Caldera, graduating in June 2004. He left to attend graduate school on a scholarship in Movingwater, Bavogia, where he earned an Master's Degree in Volin language. LeMieux's parents divorced in March 2005. Jean returned to Burgundie in 2005, where he remarried for a fourth time and worked for the Burgoignesc government as an assistant ambassador to the State of Austro-Caldera. He visited his son in Caldera only once, at Christmas 2013, before he was killed in an automobile accident in 2024, when LeMieux was 21 years old.

In 2013, Charles' mother met a Daxian man named Xuohou Nijei in Little Caldera. Nijei was a graduate student in geography. The couple married in Little Caldera on March 15, 2015. After two extensions on his one-year visa to Caldera, Nijei was forced to return to Daxia in 2016. His wife and stepson, Ann Dunstein and Charles LeMieux, followed sixteen months later in 2017. The family initially lived in a poor neighborhood in Minxia City, but moved to a much wealthier neighborhood in Mirzak in 2020.

Education

At the age of six, Charles LeMieux was enrolled in Calderan public schooling in Little Caldera, his second place of living after Ugdon and Neu Maessen. He attended local Gothic-language schools: St. Anthony of the Falls Catholic Elementary School for two years and Staatliche Grundschule 01 (Ænglish: State Elementary School 01) for one and a half years, supplemented by Burgoignesc-language homeschooling by his mother. At the age of 14, he moved to Daxia to live with his stepfather. As part of the Daxian school system for foreigners, Charles was administered into the Low-Grade education track, where he was taught how to read and write in Daxian. After completing his Daxian schooling in 2023 at the age of 20, he made the immediate decision to move back to Caldera without his mother. In Caldera, he spent time with his maternal grandparents before attending University of Caldera Little Caldera in 2024.

He graduated from UCLC in 2028, around the same time his mom was diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer. LeMieux convinced his mom to come back to Caldera for treatment, which she did, but treatment wasn't working, so she obtained a visa to travel to Urcea, seeking the best treatment in the world. During this time, LeMieux attended the University of Caldera in Neu Maessen. Of his years in Caldera, Charles wrote "The opportunity that Caldera offered — to experience a variety of cultures in a climate of mutual respect — became an integral part of my world view, and a basis for the values that I hold most dear.". In 2030, Charles' mother died from her cancer in Urcea. Charles was informed of her death on the phone by an Urcean doctor, and had not seen her since she left Caldera 2 years prior.

Charles graduated from UoC in 2032 with a Juris Doctor, enabling him to pursue an occupation as a lawyer with a flair for politics.

Family and Personal Life

Charles LeMieux has a large extended family, noting in a 2032 interview that he has relatives on nearly every continent, closest to him being his half sister Maya Nijei who he grew up with in Daxia. LeMieux's mother was survived by her mother, Madelyn Dunstein, who died on June 28, 2034. LeMieux also has roots in Faneria, with a cousin living in Oirthidún.

During his time at college in Neu Maessen, LeMieux lived with anthropologist Addie Jäger. He proposed to her twice, but both times she declined.

In June 2033, Charles met a young woman named Emmaline Eagle at a Yellow Party rally. At first, she attended several group functions with him but declined to date. They began dating in summer 2033, and became engaged in 2034. On October 3, 2034, they married. The LeMieux family has two Cartadanian Water Dogs; the first, a male named Beau, was a gift from Charles' maternal grandfather. In 2033, Beau was joined by Soleille, a female.

LeMieux is a big fan of baseball, even throwing the first pitch at a major ballgame in late 2034. His favorite baseball team is the Little Caldera Dodgers, while his favorite soccer team is the Calderan Finches and his favorite Kravget team is the Calderan Volcanoes. In early 2035, the LeMieux family took the proceeds of one of his most popular books and used it to move from a Little Caldera condominium to a 1.6 million piece house in Neu Maessen. In December 2034, LeMieux's net worth was estimated to be around 12 million.

Religious views

LeMieux is a Catholic Christian whose religious views developed later in life. He wrote that he was not raised in a religious household, with his mom being agnostic, father being atheist, and stepfather being a non-practicing Muslim. He chose to be Catholic because he likes how Jesus Christ taught to be your family's keeper, and to treat others how you want to be treated. He believes Catholicism is the most valid denomination of Christianity, given its approval by Jesus Christ.

Election Campaign

Prior to the Volkspartei's announcement of the 2034 Prime Leader election, Charles LeMieux had already rose to be that party's nominee if a multi-party election would be held. After the announcement, Charles LeMieux hosted multiple rallies and joined parades in Little Caldera to promote the Yellow Party as much as he could. When election day came quickly, he narrowly won the vote, becoming the last Prime Leader of Austro-Caldera.

Presidency

Charles LeMieux is the most influential leader in Calderan history since Joeseph Seuber. In the first 100 days of office, LeMieux changed national symbols, changed the name of the government, reformed the legislature, and overall changed Caldera from a conservative Gothic one party state to an incredibly liberal multi-party multi-ethnic state. There have been calls criticizing him for the adoption and treatment of Burgoignesc culture above others, especially Indigeno-Calderan culture, but LeMieux has stated that it's all part of his plan to unite all Calderans together.
