Oirthidún is the capital city of the Republic of the Fhainn and the fourth largest city in Faneria by population. The city was first founded as a conglomeration of three smaller Dúnnan fortifications along the western bank of the Rhydwel in 1584 by Banrih Cailean Suthar-Màrtainn immediately following the end of the Second Princes' War. Its modern 'old city' was designed as a planned city along the west bank, with the administrative capital expanding outwards to accommodate the east bank and envelop much of the immediate countryside, although the city never managed to surpass the more developed trade route city of Teindún to the immediate north. Currently, the city has a permanent population of over three and three-quarters million people, and is the center for several government bodies, including seat of the National Assembly and the National Audit Council. The Directorate of the Republic of the Fhainn has its formal headquarters here, but also maintains a secondary location in Rihsport.

Oirthidún's population of 3.9 million is primarily ethnic Fhainn, with a minority of Parvefhainn and Sheafhainn as well as a small Aenglo community. The city's population is stable with a slight trend towards a younger population as of 2025.

Health, Wealth, Transit, and Education

The economy of the city is a mix of tech sector, service industry, tourism, and banking, with many of the old factories being overshadowed economically but kept running through government support or purchase. Oirthidún was never a critical industrial hub, but in the modern day it shows clearly in the city's park spaces, high density of earthworks and historic neighborhoods, and relatively pre-planned layout compared to many other Fhainnin cities, which have often gone through numerous renovations over the centuries.

Transit in-city is heavily influenced by the city-wide metro system, which connects to the Teindún metro; several tunnels are under construction to add routes to the Sathlagen metro and others in the future. Roadways in the city are standardized, and underground parking is a large part of the solutions to car density currently in use by the city government. The city has one major and one minor railway junction in the south and north, respectively, and several train routes run through the city, albeit not through the city center.
