The Austral Coscivians are a Christian people, denominationally divided among Coscivian Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism, and Xelphicanism. Their diet is believed to rely upon potatoes as a staple crop. Depictions of Deep South Coscivians dating from the 21120s and earlier suggest that the Deep South Coscivians have some degree of Pelian admixture.

The Austral Coscivians or Deep South Coscivians (Kiravic: Ravatūrix Koskem, Biþnidéskax Koskem), also known as the Cosco-Sydonans are the predominant ethnic group inhabiting the Sydona Islands in southern Ixnay.

History

ALL THESE DATES ARE WRONG NOW

While much remains unclear about the early history of the Deep South Coscivians, most scholars in the Coscivian world agree that the first Coscivians arrived in the Sydona Isles between the 21030s and 21050s. By the 21070s, numerous sources attested to a population of Coscivian farmers, merchants, and fishermenon the islands speaking an Iatic-based Coscivian creole similar in structure to Kiravic.

The Sydona Islands were, for a period following the formation of the, Confederate Republics, a member-state of the Kiravian confederation, but came under the rule of various successive regimes based on the Ixnayan mainland, including most recently the Yashkobandi.

Onomastics

Deep South Coscivians have an inventory of names that reflects the many different cultural influences in Sydona over the centuries.

Austral Coscivians are more likely than other Coscivian-Kiravians to bear Latinate forenames. Most such forenames have Christian associations, such as Aþanasius, Íoanpetrus, Nicoláus, and Águstin for men and Varya, Ècaterina, and Viloména for women. Many Austral Coscivians have Coscivised surnames with their origins in other languages, indicating Salesian, Pelian, or Leinlandic ancestry. Examples of common Coscivised Salesian names include Harínton (from Harrington) and Vénvrædin (from Wainwright). The morphemes -haya- and mani usually indicate a Pelian etymology.

Deep South Coscivian surnames commonly end in the suffixes -ryn, -syn, or vyn. While these suffixes are not unique to Deep South Coscivians, they are exceptionally frequent in Sydona.

Historiography and Political Significance

The presence of the Deep South Coscivians provides the basis for the Kiravian Federacy's territorial claims to the Sydona Islands, and as such, historiographical opinions on the Deep South Coscivians are often politically charged. While most scholars in the Coscivian world maintain that the Deep South Coscivians have been the majority ethnic group in the islands for the better part of two centuries and remain so to the present day, foreign critics, particularly those hailing from nations with conflicting claims in the Sydonas, may go so far as to claim that the Deep South Coscivians are either long-extinct or never existed as anything more than a Kiravian propaganda tool.

The 21200 Kiravian Census counted some 130,000 individuals living in the Federacy who listed their ethnosocial group as "Deep South Coscivian", "Sydonan Coscivian", "Coscivian-Leinlander", or "South Ixnayan Coscivian", though there is some speculation that this census data was fudged by the Kiravian government to legitimate its teritorial claims.

Since the 21205 liberation of the islands and the restoration of Kiravian rule, the reality of the Austral Coscivian majority presence in the island has become more widely accepted.
