There are nine parishes in the state of Montecarlo, all of which existed at the ratification of federal and state constitutions. Under the Montecarlo State Constitution, all of its parishes are granted home rule to deal with problems that are purely local in nature. Each parish also serves as the boundary for a parish-wide school district, though some cities operate their own school systems.
The Cartadanian Institute of Geography and Statistics (ICGE) code, which is used by the Cartadanian government to uniquely identify geographic features, is provided with each entry. Montecarlo's state code is 17 (county code 17136), which when combined with any geographic code would be written in the form of 17XXXXXXX. For example, the ICGE code for Avissons Parish is 171360001.
