The Hugo Charpantier class, also known as the F100 class, is a class of Prometheus combat system-equipped air defence frigates in service with the Pelaxian Navy. The vessels were built by Cartadanian shipbuilder Valorica Marine in Santaria, Siena at Valorica's Santaria Yards, with the lead ship of the class named for Admiral Hugo Charpantier.
The ships are fitted with the Cartadanian Prometheus weapons system allowing them to track hundreds of airborne targets simultaneously as part of its air defense network. The Hugo Charpantier-class multi-role frigates are one of the few non-Cartadanian warships to carry the Prometheus system and its associated ATLAS radar. The Cartadanian Spitzer class and Ceylonian Melilla class also use the Prometheus system.
The Hugo Charpantier-class frigates are the first modern vessels of the Pelaxian Navy to incorporate ballistic resistant steel in the hull, along with the power plants being mounted on anti-vibration mounts to reduce noise and make them less detectable by submarines.
Development
The development of the Hugo Charpantier-class frigates came with the need of the Pelaxian Navy to replace the aging Sanjurjo-class destroyers. Plans for a multi-role frigate class to take its place were well received within the Ministry of Defense, and the contenders for contracts were sizeable. Valorica Marine, a major shipbuilder headquartered in the Cartadanian state of Triessa, was among these contractors and eventually selected to be the sole shipbuilder for the class's eight currently planned vessels. In a fashion typical of Valorica, the project is developed and provided along with partner corporations, including Angelico and its other subsidiaries (e.g., Allocca), energy solutions manufacturers Bia and Ganymede, as well as QSI-susidiaries O'Shea Corporation and Shockwave Industrial.
