Aleira, officially the State of Aleira (Cartadanian: Estado da Aleira, Charentais: État d'Alire), is a state located on the north-central coast of the island of Urlazio in Cartadania. With 6.2 million residents across a total area of about 105,611.6 square kilometres (40,776.9 sq mi), Aleira is the 20th-most populous and seventeenth-most extensive state in Cartadania. The state capital is the city of Francesca in Central Aleira, while Cerise is the most populous city in the state, located along the northern coast at the Aurillac River delta. The Cerise metro area is the most populous urban region in the state, with 1/3 of the state's residents.
Though not located directly on a fault line, Aleira's proximity to Cascália, the most seismically active state in Cartadania, means the state is susceptible to occassional tremors. Despite this, Cascália's fault line has been relatively docile since, with the largest earthquake since 1987 registering at only a 3.1 on the Richter scale at its epicenter.
Aleira shares a common history with Maresia, which it borders to the west, in that it is considered part of the greater Charente region. The state is home to the second largest population of Charentais people in the country after Maresia and many of the customs native to Maresia are also practiced in Aleira. As a result, the states are sometimes considered cultural twins and sometimes are referred by a pormanteau name, Mileira. Nonetheless, the Charentais culture is primarily focused in cities along the coast and Aurillac river. The majority of the state has a relatively latin background, primarily due to Caphirian influence. The largest portions of the state (i.e., those south of the Roque line) have ancestry tracing back mostly to Caphirian Urlazio, as well as the mainland provinces of Desia and Amarsia.
