Nomenclature

Coscivian Sea is the most widely recognised name for the sea, adopted by mediæval Levantine writers in reference to the Coscivian peoples who settled its southern shores and most of its major islands. Historically, Coscivians themselves have referred to the sea as Tuśkix Fara ("North Sea") or Ambrix Tuśkifara ("Great North Sea"), although over time Kiravian cartographers and the Kiravian government have proudly adopted the prevailing international name.

Navigational Aids

The Kiravian Littoral Force and Northern Lights Authority have taken extensive measures to make the Coscivian Sea safer for shipping.

The vast number of dangerous coastal formations, rocks, shoals, and islets dotting the Coscivian Sea [are bad], especially during the long, dark subarctic winters. The Northern Lights Authority, an agency of the Kiravian government, is maintains several hundred lighthouses along the Kiravian coasts of the Coscivian Sea, along with a fleet of lightships and a number of light buoys.

The Burgundian Maritime Navigation Administration of the Revenue Guard administers the lighthouses, lightships, light towers, range lights, pier head lights, and light buoys on Burgundian and Faneriai coasts and islands in the Coscivian Sea.

Weather Radar

The Burgundian Maritime Navigation Administration of the Revenue Guard maintains the infrastructure, collects and diseminates weather data for Burgundie and Faneria in the Coscivian Sea.

AIS

The Burgundian Maritime Navigation Administration of the Revenue Guard maintains the infrastructure, collects and disseminates AIS data for Burgundie and Faneria in the Coscivian Sea. As the creators of AIS technology the Burgundian government is very covetous of the sharing of the technology, but are authorized to share the data collected. Since the late 2000s the Burgundian Maritime Navigation Administration has joined in a collaborative effort for safer sea passage with the Northern Lights Authority to share AIS data, set up sensors across Kiravia, and a marine traffic coordination center in Kiravian City TBD.
