Ethnocultural Breakdown of Saar-Silverda

  Coscivians (68.2%)
  Tryhstians (15.2%)
  National Minorities
and Colonial Natives (8.1%)
  Citizens of Foreign Origin (3.4%)
  Foreign Expatriates
and Other (5.1%)

Pontevedra has a diverse population created by migration to the city from other parts of the West Coast, elsewhere in Great Kirav, and further afield. A majority (68.2%) of its residents are Coscivians. The largest Coscivian ethnosocial communities are the Azuriem, who have strong associations with the city and Argévia as a whole, the Serradans from the mountain vales of northern Argévia and the other Farravonian states, West Coast Marine Coscivians, Lusan Coscivians, Paisonic Coscivians, and Umcaran Coscivians. There are also significant number of Varinyans-Kastrovans, Ispadans, Ardónians, Cosco-Yetruenes, Cosco-Ciattomi, Ēkoronans, and Pelargians.

Tryhstians, present in the city since its foundation, make up the largest non-Coscivian group by far, and constitute the largest concentration of Tryhstians outside of the Tryhstian Littoral. They form the core of the city's large Lusophone community, supplemented by a subset of immigrants from The Cape and Cartadania.

Large numbers of immigrants and expatriates from Crona, Heku, Azikoria, and Cartadania live in Pontevedra, due to its popularity as a touristic and business destination.

Roman Catholicism (adhered to by Serradans, Tryhstians, and minorities from other groups), Coscivian Orthodoxy, and Lutheranism (adhered to by Umcaran Coscivians) are the largest religious groups in the city. There are also numerous Rurican, Methodist, Imperial (Hekuvian) Catholic, Mormon, Komarist, Emerging Church, Muslim, Insular Apostolic, Alkharvian Chouseini, Melian-Pythagorean, Neostoic, and Mandæan congregations. The Church of Dodd has been based in the city for decades, operating from the Global Cathedral of Dodd on Fourth Avenue. In addition to the Global Cathedral, there are six additional Pribyterian congregations in Pontevedra.

Economy

Pontevedra has a robust and growing economy supported by entertainment, media, tourism, and trade.

Pontevedra is the capital of the Kiravian entertainment sector. It is the undisputed leader in the music, leisure and studio film industries, and along with Valēka stands as a major centre of television, radio, web content, and fashion production. Its nightclubs, luxury hôtels, restaurants, and international shopping centres are famous throughout the region and draw millions of visitors and billions in tourist saars each year. All major Kiravian film studios and most major music labels are based in the Pontevedra metropolitan area. County Akvagen contains most of the nation's sound stages and corporate recording studios.

As the southernmost port on the west coast of Great Kirav, Pontevedra is well-situated as a conduit for maritime trade with the Cronan mainland, with major import-export partners such as Paulastra, North Amerigo, and Dmanian, as well as Heku doing business on the city's docks. While Saar-Silverda remains the west coast's principal port, owing to its better road and rail connexions and proximity to the valuable Upper Kiravian and Farravonian markets, Pontevedra remains an important point of entry for both legal and illegal goods and has benefitted greatly from the CKOCA free trade agreement. The Cronan regional headquarters of many Kiravian-based multinationals are located in Pontevedra, including Ecuniversa International (insurance), SAK Bibrax (brewing), SAK EskúSirv (digital services), Halivaxt Computing (computers), and the Magellan Group (investment banking).

Black Market

Pontevedra has acquired a reputation as a major hub of the Kiravian black market. Laxity on the part of state and local law enforcement combined with the city's status as an international port and travel destination has made Pontevedra a prime location for the transport and sale of illegal and extralegal goods. Pontevedra's black market has its roots in the drug trade, using transport links to drug producers in Heku, Cartadania, Pelaxia, and Paulastra to meet the demand fuelled by Argévia's burgeoning club industry and rave scene. Over time, the blind eye turned by state and county authorities to drug operations has allowed Pontevedra and its environs to develop their own domestic production of ketamine, MDMA, GHB, and bath salts and engage in a limited export trade, mostly to North Amerigo. The rise of domestic production pushed the Kiravian Mafia, who control most smuggling operations in the city, to diversify their merchandise to include stolen automotive and electronic components, pharmaceuticals, and counterfeit consumer goods. A significant traffick in pirated and counterfeit software existed during the 21180s and 21190s, but has largely been snuffed out by online filesharing.
