History

Nanseetucket has been inhabited by humans since the Punthite Mesolithic Period at the latest. Archaeological evidence suggests that after the spread of agriculture to the region, the territory that would become modern-day Nanseetucket was inhabited by at least three different material cultures during its prehistory.

Beginning in the 1630s, the eastern coastal communities of the country, especially those in the area now known as Chappaquiddick, came into contact with Coscivian merchants trading out of Kiravian outposts on Atrassica.

Late Modern Era

Nanseetcuket's Chappaquiddick coast was made internationally famous in the 1800s and early 1900s as a death trap for international shipping. Numerous Kiravian and Burgundian merchant marine ships were dashed against the rocks in mysterious storms. These sailors were considered the best storm sailors in the world due to their experience in the Kilikas Storm Belt and were the vanguard of an international effort to engage Nanseetucket by the global community. The Burgundian Maritime Navigation Administration calculates that between 1804 and 1914 78 Burgundian merchant ships were destroyed on the rocks, shoals, and shores of Chappaquiddick. The Burgundian Maritime Biographer Laureate Maurie-Joseph Copecnee laments that the ports of Nanseetucket were "gravid with mercantile potential. Our national future in Nanseetucket was cut short by the enmity of the insolent Chappaquiddick."

Politics

Nanseetucket is a confederation of some 97 cantons, which in themselves constitute generally self-governing city-states. The individual cantons within the confederation are mostly under traditional indigenous leadership, whereas the confederal government has a written constitution providing for the rule by the of the Chief-of-all-Chiefs and the Council of the Land.

In theory, the Chief-of-all-Chiefs is elected every six years by a two-round nationwide popular vote, and the Council of the Land is elected every three years by plurality vote from each canton. However, the current Chief-of-all-Chiefs, Mirek Alaganek, has remained in office for the past nine years without facing reëlection, and the Council of the Land has been subject to frequent dissolution, snap elections, and suspending of scheduled elections by order of the Chief-of-all-Chiefs. Although the Chief-of-all-Chiefs is not explicitly granted the authority to dissolve the Council by the constitution, the lack of a confederal judiciary or any well-organised opposition movement has allowed such actions to continue unhindered.

At present, the majority coalition in the council is the All-Nanseetucket Great Alliance.

Demographics

Nanseetucket is ethnically and linguistically diverse. Most of western Nanseetucket, including the [NAME] Peninsula, is inhabited by various Uto-Aztecan and Macro-Mayan peoples, while the eastern part of the country is home to tribes related more closely to those in the Western Apalachnee Federation.

The vast majority of the population practices indigenous tribal religions, many of which incorporate some aspect of heliolatry, with some similarities to the Solar Arzalism practiced to the south in Varshan.
