Maraigh successfully lobbied for the production of a new heavy long-range nuclear-powered submarine, as Faneria's last class of a similar type, the [[Gaisgeil-class submarine|Gaisgeil]] ('Gallant') was designed in 1978 and showing its age after a history of design issues, as well as being unable to carry many modern payloads.
