The Agrarian Caucus is a political group in the Kiravian Stanora representing the interests of farmers, pastoralists, and people in rural areas. The oldest Stanora caucus in continuous operation, the Agrarians draw their support from workers in Kiravia's large agricultural sector, particularly in the overseas colonies. Though a small caucus in and of itself, the Agrarians form the core of a larger Stanora caucus that includes many members of the Caritist Social Union and the Liberty Group, as well as a few members of the Authentic Historical Caucus that are focused on rural interests.

History

Platform

Voter Base and Electoral Challenges

The Agrarian base consists primarily of small farmers, husbandmen, beekeepers, and other agricultural workers of Coscivian background (non-Coscivian farmers typically support the Caritist Social Union) living in the central and north-central states of Great Kirav and in the overseas settler colonies, particularly in areas that have long histories of family-based, smallhold agriculture and high rates of land ownership. Topographically, the Agrarian Caucus dominates the rural vote in areas under intensive cultivation, such as plains and cleared forests, whereäs rural dwellers in the less-productive mountain and forest regions are strong supporters of the Liberty Group.

In recent decades, the Agrarians have lost ground to agrarian-minded distributist parties affiliated with the Caritist Social Union, a change attributable in part to the activities of the Catholic Rural Life Alliance, as well as the wider proliferation of distributistic thought in Kiravia through churches and the media. Agrarian Caucus voters today are far more likely to belong to Coscivian monotheïstic religions than to Christianity.

The Lime Movement

The Lime Movement is the phenomenon of increasingly close coöperation and hypothetical coälition or convergence between the Agrarian Caucus and the Caritist Social Union based on their common pro-rural stances, promotion of property ownership, and social values. Lime coälitions have emerged in many rural states where Distributist and Agrarian parties both command large shares of the vote and have joined together to form majorities or supermajorities in the state legislatures. There has been much speculation about the possibility of a Federal alliance between the CSU, Agrarians, and Authentic Historical Caucus in opposition to the market liberal, industrial/commercial-focused economic agenda of the Shaftonist-Republicans, and perhaps as a coälition government, should the CSU and CoR sufficiently increase their share of Stanora seats.
