AkbarLeaks is an clandestine organisation that publishes classified media provided by anonymous sources, often suggesting illegal or unethical activity on the part of governments, corporations, and international organisations.
AkbarLeaks is believed to be operated by a network of individuals communicating through anonymised virtual networks. Individual incarnations of the AkbarLeaks website are usually taken down fairly quickly by state cybersecurity and counterintelligence agents, but usually not in time to prevent leaked material from spreading and attracting the attention of the news media. Different instances of the site maintain a common web design, and reports are published under nonsensical pseudonymous bylines like "Abs" and "Sumarma".
Although the website has an Arabic-derived name and makes use of Audonian motifs, many experts believe that this may be a red herring, and that there is little evidence beyond cosmetics to suggest that the group has genuine Audonian or Islamic connexions.
