A Benefactor confederacy is a type of government wherein different tribes or ethnic groups are joined together in a formal confederation, but the confederation is lead by a stronger, external partner. These arrangements are intended to provide the maximum amount of autonomy and safety from foreign threats to the confederation members while providing geopolitical stability in an important region for a Great Power or access to natural resources. It also creates a built-in conflict resolution and arbitration system for the members of the confederation. Within these arrangements, the confederation is not financially beneficial for the benefactor, contrasting it with a more direct hegemony. In practice, these types of arrangements are usually between Kiro-Occidental powers on the one hand and smaller groups of tribes or statelets on the other and are typically found in Crona.

A benefactor confederacy usually involves a territory directly under the control of the more powerful state as part of the confederation, but not always. Soft power influence on a confederation can sometimes be classified as sufficient to make for a "benefactor" relationship, such as the relationship between Urcea and the Chenango Confederacy.
