Trofannol

Trofannol, coming from Fhasen for 'tropical', is a pill taken as a countermeasure for Malaria. It is taken either once daily with 80mg or twice daily with 40mg for patients who have already contracted malaria; in roughly 80% of cases, a full cycle of Trofannol purges the parasite from the human body. It was first used in 1987 as a replacement for Chloroquinine, which faced growing resistance from malaria strains; however, Trofannol successfully attacks Plasmodium falciparum, the primary resistant variant. The drug causes side affects including dehydration, itching, irritability, and is unsafe for use in patients with hemophilia. Trofanol may be taken as a preventative but is generally as effective and more expensive than preventatives.
