Etymology | See below |
The Magnag is a large lake in southern Urcea, considered one of Levantia's great lakes. It is the largest body of water in Urcea. It encompasses part of two Urcean provinces, namely the Grand Duchy of Harren and Ardricampus.
Etymology
The term "Magnag" is thought to have come from a misunderstanding between Adonerii explorers and local Gaels; the Latin word "magna" or "magnus", for "great", was likely used by early Latinic settlers and explorers in reference to the lake. Scholars have posited that the local Gaelic population misheard this word as "magnag", developing the name for the lake. A minority of scholars have disagreed and posited that it's an early Gaelic or proto-Gaelic word.
