The Pornokairan Nuclear Power Station is a nuclear power plant located in north-central Koskenkorva. It is one of the northernmost nuclear power plants in the world. Built from 1970 to 1973 and first fired in 1974 under the direction of the Kiravian Union Ministry of Atomic Energy, the Pornokairan plant was privatised in 1996 by the reconstituted State of Koskenkorva after Kiravian reunification and purchased by Energodar Enterprises, which would sell the plant to Boreal Atomcraft in 2004. The plant provides 22% of the electricity to Koskenkorva's power grid.
Environmentalists have raised concerns about the effect of the harsh climate on the integrity of concrete structures, metal piping, and other components at the plant. These concerns have been dismissed by Boreal Atomcraft and the Kiravian Energy Executive.
