Saint Tomás, officially the City of Saint Tomás (alt. Saint Thomas; Cartadanian: Cidade do São Tomás), is a city located in southern Rieti County, Alexandria, situated along the picturesque shores of the Urlazian Sea. As per the latest available data from the 2030 Census, the population of Saint Tomás was recorded at 698,861, making it the third largest city in Alexandria, trailing only Calaine and New Venceia, and just ahead of Portomar in terms of population size. Moreover, Saint Tomás holds a prominent position as a principal city within the National Metro Area, which encompasses the federal capital of Alahuela, with a sprawling metro population of 10.9 million people. Saint Tomás is the largest city within the metro area, not including Alahuela itself, but Rieti County is the second-largest county after Verona's Cara County.
The history of Saint Tomás dates back to the establishment of Sancte Thoma, a settlement founded by Caphirian colonists in the year 788. Over time, as the Latin language evolved into different Romance groups with the formation of Lusia, Sancte Thoma was renamed São Tomás. In 1501, the city was officially chartered by the provincial government of Alexandria, consolidating various nearby settlements into one cohesive entity. Notably, Saint Tomás is distinguished for being one of the oldest continuously chartered cities in Cartadania, with a rich heritage that spans several centuries.
