The House of Union was formed in 1981 upon the Canasta Companies abolishment of the Wasi Kings government. The original House of Union had 150 members and was much different then it is today. The Wasiexu is a member of the Board of Executives and is also the Canespian head of state. The Wasiexu is effectively a monarch with some voted on qualities. To be the Wasiexu you must be a member of House Wasi, an almost extinct house which has different rules on who can be a part of it compared to other houses. To be a member of House Wasi you must be a son or daughter of the current Wasi King. Your children will only inherit House Wasi if you become the Wasi King or in recent times the Wasiexu. If you are part of the past Wasi Kings offspring and you do not get elected to be the Wasi King then you will continue to be part of House Wasi but your children will follow the house of the other parent. Normally the fathers house is the house that is passed on but this opens up the possibility for the mother to pass on her house.
 
In the modern day the Wasiexu is a confirmed member of the board of Executives and follows the same inheritance laws as the Wasi King. The Wasiexu is additionally the CEO of the Canasta Company. This makes him and the Board of Directors the effective economic unit of Canespa with some input from the House of Union.
