The Verona Commonwealth University system is a state university system in the Commonwealth of Verona and is one of the state's three independent university systems. With an enrollment of nearly 1 million, the Verona Commonwealth University system is the largest system of higher education in Cartadania. Under the Verona Higher Education Plan, the Verona Commonwealth University is a part of the state's four-system public higher education plan, which also includes the University of Verona system, the Verona Institute of Technology system, and the Verona Community Colleges System.

Governed by the Verona Department of Education, the Verona Commonwealth University system has 34 campuses, a combined student body of 936,260 students, 80,000 faculty members, 470,000 staff members and over 8.3 million living alumni as of December 2028.

The Verona Commonwealth University, Northwest was founded in 1715 as the Rio Mendoza State College and operated temporarily in unincorporated Cara County until the city of LaMarque annexed the land along the portion of the Mendoza River bordering Alahuela in 1741. That same year, Villega State College and Olympia State College opened in Richland and Oasis Springs, respectively. In an effort to organize the non-UVA campuses, the Commonwealth established the Verona State College system in the south and the Commonwealth College System of Verona in the north, though there were campuses in either region that adopted the name of the opposite system (i.e., VCU Rathan and Balderas State University). Thus, the General Assembly united the two systems in 1942 to form the Verona Commonwealth University system. The system is unique in Verona because it is the only horizontal state university system of the three in the state; the System does not have a flagship institution and considers all colleges and universities to be equal partners receiving the same level of support from the system.
