The Cartadanian Navy (Cartadanian: Marinha Cartadaniana, also formerly known as Marinha de Guerra Cartadaniana or as Armada Cartadaniana) is Cartadania's naval warfare force. Formed prior to the country's independence as the sole major maritime warfare branch in northern Sarpedon, due in part to Caphiria's apprehension to naval operations, it is the oldest navy in the Sarpedon, but the second-oldest of the three main branches of the Cartadanian Armed Forces (after the Cartadanian Army). Since its formation, the MC has taken a significant role in Cartadanian military history. In particular, it played a large part in Cartadania's fight during the Great War.
The Cartadanian Navy is a military service branch organized within the Department of the Navy, one of the three military departments of the Department of Defense, to which the Marine Corps is also part and coequal to the Navy. The Navy, through the Department of the Navy is headed by the civilian Secretary of the Navy, who reports to the Secretary of Defense and is appointed by the President. The highest-ranking military officer in the Navy is the Chief of Naval Operations, who exercises supervision over Naval units and serves as one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As directed by the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Navy, certain Naval components are assigned to unified combatant commands. Combatant commanders are delegated operational authority of the forces assigned to them, while the Secretary of the Navy and the Chief of Naval Operations retain administrative authority over their members.
