The Province of Gleathan is an administrative region of Faneria bordering Vrael to the west, Haibnelann and Cost Tàirne to the north, Fhainnholdt to the east, and Bah Lannan and the Vandarch Sea to the south.
Geography
The province is seated at the end of the Deamhainn Mountains, and is bordered by the Gwyn River to the west and the Thiar River to the east; it additionally contains the Rihsriver. Its terrain is largely composed of high mountains leading down to rolling hills in the lowlands, terminating at rugged coastlines at near-sea level. Its southern and western extremes are low-lying plains that extend south into Culriocha through the Prevaline Isthmus and north into Vrael Province.
Economy
Gleathan straddles the Kilikas Sea and the Vandarch, bordering the International Canal Zone. As such, it plays a pivotal role as the gateway from the Vandarch and the open ocean. Increasingly, the government of Faneria has put money into expanding and upgrading infrastructure in Gleathan, with rails allowing larger portions of international Fhainnin trade to bypass the Grand Vandarch Canal. The economy of Gleathan is largely based in manufacturing, the service industry, and shipping. A smaller mining and agricultural component exists, and the area hosts a steadily growing tech sector. Its economy is one of the fastest-growing in the country alongside Haibnelann.
Politics
Gleathan has traditionally been dominated by the Starkist faction of the Central Republicans, but switched to plurality Futurist in the 2020 Census. The Royalists and New Way parties play a minor role in politics.
Demographics
Fhainnin are the overwhelming majority of the population, but Prevalian, Coscivian, Aenglish, and other minorities exist, largely in the cities. The majority are Catholic, followed by the irreligious, with the next largest groups being pagans and Protestants at a distant third and fourth. The largest city in the area is Rihsport, which is also the largest port in the area and Faneria's largest port city on the Kilikas Sea. The administrative capital was previously Omeath, a smaller inland city in eastern Gleathan; the provincial government moved to Rihsport in 2016.
