The Snowlandish Intervention also known as the Invasion of Snowlandish, was a war fought in eastern Crona between the forces of the Levantia and Audonia Treaty Association and the Grand Duchy of Snowlandish.

Background

The Great Cold War from 2038 to 2044 was characterised by a great deal of diplomatic and military posturing to decide the balance of power between the LATA and the Northern Union. Crona, governed mostly by nonaligned powers at the outset of the Cold War, found itself near the geographic front lines of the conflict, and quickly became a diplomatic battleground as both blocs sought to expand their influence on the continent. Both blocs courted Cronan governments with overtures of military and economic assistance, with the LATA offering preferential trade deals with their powerful economies and promises of protection by LATA armed forces, and the Northern Union offering protection against perceived LATA imperialism in the form of arms, troop rotations, and subsidised mercenaries.

Rototornik quickly built good relations with the Greater Levantian powers and was admitted to the LATA in [Month] of 204X, marking a critical diplomatic triumph for that alliance. In response, the Northern Union accelerated its efforts to gain affiliates in Crona. The nation of Snowlandish, finding itself wedged between the larger and now formally allied nations of Rototornik and Kiravia, eagerly accepted northern aid and entered into secret negotiations to join the Northern Union. Plans for these negotiations were uncovered by Urcean intelligence agents and brought to the attention of LATA Joint Intelligence.

Course of the War

Conscious of the Northern Union's capacity for rapid deployment and the fact that Northern Union boots on the ground in Snowlandish would mean that NU influence in the country could only be removed by open war between the alliances, the LATA objective in Snowlandish was to neutralise the country before Northern forces could reach it. Kiravian military assets on the west coast had been on high alert for some time, and Urcean, Latin, and Paulastrani troops had been stationed in Great Kirav for years in order to deter a direct assault by the NU. LATA forces were quickly transported from various bases in Great Kirav to the west coast.

The war commenced with missile strikes from land-based batteries along the Kiravian coast and Kiravian destroyers in the Cascada Channel, joined within 24 hours by missile and air strikes launched from Rototornik. After the barrage had begun, LATA officials sent word to the Snowlandish government offering to halt the bombardment upon the Duchy's unconditional surrender, but received no response.

The ground invasion of Snowlandish was begun by Latin forces at 5:21 Audonian Standard Time the next day. Latin troops quickly secured footholds in a number of border towns, paving the way for LATA forces to advance toward the capital. Snowlandish resistence proved weak and poorly-coordinated, owing to crippling damage to Snowlandish military installations and infrastructure.

Aftermath

Snowlandish was declared debellated by the LATA on [Date], 2041. The former Grand Duchy was to be administered as a LATA trust territory, under a redevelopment plan that opened it to firms and settlers from neighbouring LATA countries. The mainland portion of Snowlandish, adjacent to Rototornik, was subject to extensive 'Tornikian settlement and economic influence, and annexed to the Stratocratic States of Crona in [Year]. The trust territory was dissolved when Snávin, the island portion of Snowlandish, was tranferred to Kiravian control as the Territory of Æonara.

The destruction of Snowlandish was a fatal blow to Northern Union influence in Crona. The previously pro-Northern nation of the Empire of North merged with Rototornik shortly after the war, effectively closing the continent to the Northern Union.
