Paramór is a countyship (amtra) of Central Æonara, located on the South Atrassic coast. It encompasses the city of Sirana and the core of its metropolitan area, which extends outward into the adjacent countyships. In addition to the primate city of Sirana, which is its administrative capital and economic centre, the countyship also includes several outlying edge cities forming separate business and employment centres. Most of Paramór Countyship is covered by suburban ranch tracts, many built on drained swampland. It is the most populous countyship of Central Æonara and the Æonaran provinces collectively, and the most populous in Overseas Kirav.
Geography and Climate
Co. Paramór lies along the low-lying eastern Æonaran coastal plain. Much of its land areas was originally coastal wetland that was drained for development during the 20th century, causing incalculable ecological damage. Precious little pristine wetland remains within the countyship's boundaries, though most of that which does is under some form of protection as parkland.
Storms, drainage, and flooding are perennial concerns in the flat, low-lying coastal countyship, which lies well within the hurricane belt.
Society and Culture
Co. Paramór is easily the most culturally diverse part of Æonara. During the Sunderance, Sirana and its environs were known as a "microcosm of the Realm" because people from virtually all Kiravian regional and ethnic backgrounds had settled there in some quantity. Since reunification, the countyship has become even more diverse and cosmopolitan due to a growing population of migrant workers from Cronan and Polynesian countries, and a larger presence of white-collar expatriates from Cronan and Sarpedonian countries involved in Sirana's business life.
Æonaran Coscivian is the predominant spoken language in the county and the main working language of the countyship government for most purposes, though Kiravic Coscivian and Kiravian Gaelic have auxilliary official status, and bilingualism in Æonaran and Kiravic is widespread among non-immigrant residents of most social and linguistic backgrounds due to the prominence of the Mainlander community in the countyship. West Coast Marine Coscivian and South Coscivian are spoken by very large communities of emigré origin, and many smaller linguistic enclaves exist in various parts of the Paramór. Thus also for Umcaran Coscivian and Bajablastran Coscivian.
Government
Co. Paramór has a standard Commission-Executive form of government typical of Æonara.
Five out of nine seats on the County Commission are held by the Renaissance Party of Central Æonara, with three of the remainder held by the Christian Democratic Party and one held by the Social Democrats KF. Partisan control of the commission has rotated between the RPCÆ and CDPCÆ since the end of martial law.
Economy
Co. Paramór has a large and diversified local economy based primarily on services, transportation, and construction. Many major Kiravian corporations are headquartered in the countyship or maintain regional offices there. Sirana is the financial capital of Æonara and of Kiravian Crona more generally, and the second most important financial centre in the Federacy after Valēka. Several major merchant and investment banks are headquartered in the countyship, some of which originated during the colonial period, and others of which were formed during the Sunderance as part of the triangular system of capital flow between Caphiria, Pribraltar, and Æonara.
V.R. Sarosten International Airport is the busiest in the Kiravian Federacy by number of annual passengers. It is a hub for Kiravian Overseas Airways, Kirav Atrassic Airways, and Pluricontinental Airways, and supports Sirana's status as an international business centre and a major destination for leisure travel by Kiravians. Similarly, the Port of Sirana is one of the largest container ports in the Kiravian Federacy, facilitating international trade and connecting businesses across Crona, Great Kirav, the Vallos-Kindreds region, and other global markets.
The real estate market in Paramór Countyship is robust, driven by a mix of residential, commercial, and luxury-recreational developments. The post-Sunderance rebound in residential demand has been driven mainly by migration from Great Kirav and other overseas colonies by both working-age homebuyers attracted by job opportunities and retirees attracted by low taxes and warm weather. The hospitality sector, including hôtels, restaurants, and entertainment, plays a pivotal rôle in the local economy.
Education Sector
Several institutes of higher education are located in Co. Paramór. These include the University of Sirana, Æonara International University, the National University of Science and Technology, Saint Thomas University, Sacred Heart College of Medicine, and a campus of the Overseas Coscivian University. These universities are important drivers of employment, innovation, and human capital enrichment that contribute greatly to the overall economy of the Sirana Metro area.
