Politics
As a territory, Landder is a state of the Kiravian Federacy with less autonomy than a mainland state or a chartered colony. Executive power is vested in a Governor-General appointed for a two-year term by the Prime Executive of the Kiravian Federacy, and legislative power in the unicameral Territorial Stanora. The Governor-General is responsible for enforcing territorial law, administering public services and institutions, and commanding the Landder Territorial Army. He may veto legislation passed by the Territorial Stanora and cannot be overridden, and may also introduce legislation to the Stanora. The Stanora has full control over taxation and the disposal of revenue from territorial taxes and administrative fees, while the Governor-General must approve budget allocations of Federal funds.
Political parties may contend Stanoral elections, but 25 seats (one for each countyship) are reserved for independents. Power is currently held by a conservative-distributist lime coälition government comprising the distributist Christian Democratic Party of Landder, the agrarian-distributist Rural Life Coälition, and the moderately distributistic Party of Right (Landder). The Reform Party of the Realm, National Reform Party of Landder, Coscivian National Party of Landder, and Civic Alliance make up the opposition.
Demographics
85% of the population is of Coscivian heritage. Páuanem, Virokýanem, and Sýrokýanem, native to the equatorial islands south of Sarasovia, are the largest Coscivian ethnic groups in the tropical lowlands. Large communities of Cosco-Mixogans, including the Ix̂öllem seeking refuge in Kiravia were resettled in Kiravian Landder during the late 21180s, and some Sorans from Corzia and South Cosivia have migrated to the colony since the 21200s. In the cooler highlands, most of the inhabitants arrived as part of distributistic poverty-relief programmes and trace their ancestry to the Greater Aterandic region of Great Kirav.
The Cosco-Ciattomi, Abniśem, and Cyptom also have large communities in Kiravian Landder.
Following the collapse of the government of Blue Cross Island, hundreds of thousands of Blue Cross Islanders fled to Kiravian Landder as refugees. They were granted refugee status with potential for advancement, and many have settled in Landder permanently. The town of Kirkudbrixtun ("Kirkudbright") near Hāvermat is inhabited mostly by Blue Cross Islanders.
79% of Landerbrasians are Roman Catholics, a result of the Catholic-inspired social justice projects that brought many of the first settlers to Landder, vigorous missionary activity, and an affordable Catholic school system. The Diocese of Hāvermat governs Coscivian Catholic practice in the territory as well as the adjacent ethnically-Coscivian areas of the Imperial Republic of Landder. Latin Catholics in Kiravian Landder are under the care of the Bishop of Portum. The Blue Cross Islander population around Hāvermat constitutes the largest concentration of Presbyterians in the Federacy, as well as one of the largest concentrations of Anglicans.
Economy
Landder has a largely agrarian economy supported by family farms and small agribusiness ventures taking advantage of the country's temperate oceanic climate. Landder's more level topography and longer growing season as compared to Great Kirav combine with its proximity to the metropole to make agriculture a profitable activity. Important crops in the territory include Coscivian staples such as cale, wheat, potatoes, onions, turnips, and pumpkins, as well as barley and hops for use in brewing. Dairy cattle, hogs, and broiler chickens are raised for both domestic consumption and export to Great Kirav.
Industries such as food processing, brewing, and some light manufacturing have taken root in Hāvermat and Kantenstāt.
The military installations at Hāvermat Naval Harbour, Dun-Agliśen (headquarters for Ixnay Regional Command), Oridoven Airbase, Sterlin Army Airfield, and Landder Strategic Arsenal Brüclann are major contributors to the territory's economy, directly providing thousands of jobs and increasing the demand for goods and services in their environs.
