The Cross of the Order of Shield (Burgoignesc: Croix de l'Ordre d'Escut, Gothic: Kreuz des Schildordens), known informally in Yonderre as simply the Shield Cross (Burgoignesc: Croix d'Escut, Gothic: Schildkreuz), is an order awarded in the Yonderian Defence Force and to forces allied to Yonderre. The order is named after the Shield of Joanus. The Shield Cross is awarded for a wide range of reasons and across all ranks, principally for displays of gallantry in the face of the enemy. The award was instituted on 10 June, 1813, on what would have been the 377nd birthday of Joanus de Martigueux, founder of Yonderre. The Shield Cross is a pin-on medal and is worn centered on the wearer's left uniform breast pocket, either on dress uniforms or everyday outfit. A black-white-red-white-black ribbon can replace the physical medal when it is unfit to wear.

Description

The Cross of the Order of Shield is a cross made from Vollardic steel with a polished outline and blackened center. In the center of the cross is a cluster of oakleaves above a raised "1813". Above the oakleaves is a raised "FW", the monogramme of then-Grand Duke and Duchess of Yonderre François II de Somua and Wilhelmina, topped with a crown.
