RanksRanks in the Urcean Armed Forces

The Armed Forces of the Apostolic Kingdom of Urcea, formally His Most Christian Majesty's Royal Armed Forces, are the military forces of the Apostolic Kingdom of Urcea. It consists of the Royal and Imperial Army, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Air Force. The Apostolic King of Urcea is the nominal Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, but the practical head of the Armed Forces is the Procurator, who serves as Magister Militum, who forms military policy with the Lord Marshal. The Armed Forces are organized under the Ministry of the Armed Services.

History

Command structure

The Urcean Armed Forces are nominally led by the Apostolic King of Urcea, though the Constitution of Urcea provides that the regular command of the military is under the Procurator in their role as Magister Militum. The Urcean Armed Forces are under the administration of the Ministry for the Armed Services, whose Minister also serves as Lord Marshal. The Lord Marshal is nominated from among the officer corps of the Armed Forces, traditionally of Flag Officer rank, by the Procurator and approved by the Conshilía Daoni.

The military chain of command flows from the Apostolic King of Urcea to the Procurator, ensuring civilian control of the military. Within the Ministry for the Armed Services is the Office for the Army, Office for the Navy, and Office for the Air Force, civilian led entities that oversee the coequal military service branches organized within and provide for their upkeep. The military departments and services are responsible for organizing, training, and equipping forces, with the actual chain of command flowing through the unified combatant commands.

The Council of the Lord Marshal is the senior-most military body in the Armed Forces and provides guidance to the Lord Marshal and officially receive orders from the Lord Marshal on the conduct and direction of the military, but in effect most of these directives come from civilian officials within the Ministry for the Armed Services or the Procurator in the Lord Marshal's name. It is led by the Lord Marshal, who is both the military head of the Armed Forces and always holds the rank of Legatí Princeps, Návarce Princeps, or Air Návarce Princeps and is the civilian Minister of the Ministry for the Armed Services. The Council consists of the Lord Marshal, three Deputy Lord Marshals (one for each part of the Armed Forces), and the Senior Enlisted Advisor. The Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Lord Marshal is the most senior enlisted member in the Armed Forces.

Unified command regions

Levantine Command (LEV-COM)

Sarpedon Command (SAR-COM)

Odoneru and Crona Command (ODO-COM)

Oceanic-Audonian Command (EAS-COM)

Far Western Command (WES-COM)

The Far Western Command region consists of all three branches of the armed forces and has an operational area consisting of Crona. Its Commander is Aedan Frantone, who has commanded it since 2015. During the Final War of the Deluge, most of WES-COM became part of the overall League of Nations Command.

Personnel

Officers

All officers in the Armed Forces receive their commission directly from the Apostolic King of Urcea rather than from civilian officials such as the Procurator. Candidates for officers are nominated by senior officers in military academies and sent to the Household Office for Commissions in His Most Christian Majesty's Armed Forces within the Royal Household and then sent to the Apostolic King for final approval. Once the King issues a commission for an officer, the Household Office sends it to the Ministry for the Armed Services where it is registered, and the officer candidate is given his official rank commiserate with his commission.
