Cogenia is a geographical region located in south-central Sarpedon. It borders Calto to the west, Caphiria and Volonia to the north through Lake Parima, Xalesia to the northeast, Doulan to the south, along with having a long coastline on the Absurian Ocean. Cogenia's population is concentrated mainly on the east, near the coastal areas on the lake and ocean.
Nomadic Sarpic peoples had inhabited Cogenia, along with a good deal of legacy influence from the Ancient Istroyan civilization. After the Crusades, Cogenia had been conquered and settled by the Sevtynid Kingdom in the 13th century, where it remained under its influence until the 1500s, when the Third Imperium of Caphiria crossed through Lake Parima to conquer Cogenia. It remained as a Latin vassal until Caphiria transitioned to the Fourth Imperium in 1783. Since then, Cogenia remained as a major Latin-Sarpic crossroads and point of influence.
Geography
Cogenia sits on the southeastern coast of Lake Parima, its western half covered entirely by Parima's surrounding basin and the Pelian Mountains to the southwest. The eastern areas of Cogenia are defined by flatlands, plains, and vast grasslands spanning to the Absurian Ocean coast. The Calto River system empties out into Cogenia, branching off into four major tributaries, along with two other small rivers spilling in from Doulan and Xalesia.
Cogenia's climate is characterized as a semiarid steppe in the majority of areas in the region, along with an arid cold desert in the southwest, a highland climate in the Pelian Mountains, and a subtropical dry summer climate in the northeast. Summers are usually humid in the northeast, mild in the central, and hot and dry in the southwest. Winters are especially harsh in the southwestern mountains and central prairies. Cogenia does not receive much precipitation, with a yearly average of 280 millimeters.
