List of political parties in Pelaxia
Ever since the fall of the Fifth Republic's original party system, which was dominated by the People's Action Party, after the 1995 Pelaxian national crisis, Pelaxia's political parties on that national level are no longer closely connected to their provincial counterparts with the sole exception being the Social-Labourist Movement where all of its provincial counterparts are closely integrated; this level of organisation is argued to have been a major reason why the MSO has been able to achieve consistent electoral successes on both the national level and in the provincial level. The province of Montanaro, uniquely, has its own party system that is distinct from the party systems of the other provinces, with its political axis being a spectrum between independencism and patriotism instead of the traditional left-wing and right-wing ideological politics.
General overview
- Social-Labourist Movement (Movimiento Social-Obrero, MSO) — a left-wing political party which had emerged as part of the public backlash against the Law & Justice Party and made overwhelming gains during the 2021 Pelaxian national crisis which had occurred after the National Rejuvenation Plan backfired. It is currently allied to the Castadillaan People's Democratic Party, from which the MSO derives its ideological inspiration from. The party is currently led by Pedro Meireles who currently serves as Prime Minister.
- Fighting Margarita Party (Partido Margarita Combatiente, PMC) — a centre-left political party, the PMC was established in the mid-1990s as a populist socially liberal party. It was the first party to have governed Pelaxia after the end of the Years of Steel, holding government from 1995 until 2007. It has experienced a minor political revival after the fall of the Law & Justice Party, serving as the main opposition party to the MSO-led government.
- Pelaxian Socialist Workers' Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Peláxiense, PSOP) — the oldest active political party in the country, founded in 1879. The PSOP had historically advocated for the implementation of Marxism as well as further decentralising Pelaxia into a confederation, but since the 1950s has moderated into a socially moderate social democratic party. The party's predominant role as the main centre-left party was largely subsided by the rise of the MSO in the 2020s, and currently serves as a partner in the MSO-led government.
- Together for Pelaxia (Juntos para Peláxia, JxP) — the remnants of the former long-time dominant People's Action Party, JxP was initially founded as a christian democratic party. Ever since the establishment of laicity in the early 2000s, JxP has shifted towards a secular, paternalistic conservative form of ideology. JxP also maintains a staunchly anti-socialist viewpoint, and advocates for pan-Sarpedonism.
- United Montanarans League (Ligã a Muntsãloru Unitã, LMU) — a Montanaro nationalist party. The LMU advocates for the independence of Montanaro from Pelaxia, and exclusively campaigns and runs candidates in Montanaro. It currently holds the majority of parliamentary seats allocated to Montanaro, and serves as a partner in the MSO-led government. Although ideologically on the left, the LMU maintains a wide support base.
- Social Democratic Party (Partido Social Demócrata, PSD) — an economically social democratic and socially conservative political party. The PSD was established in 2028 by former PSOP members who opposed their old party's close relations with the MSO as well as the MSO-led government's enshrinement of progressivism. The PSD is largely an outlier with no other significant political party having any relationships with it.
- Augustist Party (Partido Augustista, PAG) — the direct and legal successor to the moderate "blue" faction of the National Restoration Party (PNR), the PAG's ideological standpoint is comparable to that of the United Volonia Movement (MVU) in that it is a big tent political party with a slight lean towards the political right. The PAG supports economic protectionism to bolster national sovereignty and economic independence as well as advocating for a moderate form of corporatism in which the state serves as a mediator between differing various political and economic agents within a market economy.
- Independent Republican Action (Acción Republicana Independiente, ARI) — formed by the miniscule left-wing faction of the former PNR, the ARI advocates for a social corporatist economy and maintains a moderate stance on social policies.
- NOW! (¡AHORA!) — a green party that calls for the nation to transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewable forms of energy. Unlike other green parties, ¡AHORA! is primarily a single-issue party that has no definitive economic or social standpoint.
- Liberty & Progress (Libertad y Progreso, LxP) — a conservative party with right-wing populist and extreme classical liberal policies. Most political scientists have classified the LxP as a far-right political movement due to its aggressive ethnonationalist rhetoric.
- Civic Coherence (Coherencia Civica, CC) — a centrist populism party that mostly campaigns for copyright and patent reforms, the complete liberalisation of the internet, and the implementation of e-democracy.
- National Defense League (Liga de Defensa Nacional, LDN) — considering itself to be the true heir to the political ideology of Benedicto Camargo, the LDN is a far-right falangist party with an extreme isolationist stance. The party opposes both Caphiric and Sarpedonian integration.
Provincial-level parties
- Socialist Labour Party (Partido Socialista del Trabajo, PST) — the provincial-level wing of the MSO, the PST is a political alliance of socialist legislators and public figures in the provinces. It is the only provincial-level party to be closely integrated with its national-level counterpart.
- Montanaran Unity Party (Partidlu Unitati a Muntsãna, PUM) — although rather similar in ideology to the LMU, the PUM is entirely independent and carries a much stronger ultranationalist rhetoric than the LMU as well. The PUM operates in the province of Montanaro.
