Designed as part of King [[Patrick III of Urcea|Patrick III]]'s naval rearmament of Urcea, the ''Coria'' class was designed to be a general purpose light cruiser intended primarily for service in the [[Sea of Canete]]. The concept of the general purpose light cruiser was rendered obsolete with the introduction of the [[Glens Falls-class cruiser|''Glens Falls''-class cruiser]], after which time the Coria began service primarily as a scout cruiser and as a flotilla leader.
