Carnland, like most of Gothica, was settled by Germanic and Gaelic peoples during the bronze age, prior to the Latin Heroic Age and settlement of Levantia by Adonerum. Carnland most likely had small Latin coastal colonies but was not brought under Latin sway fully until it was conquered by Great Levantia, of which it was the northernmost part of Great Levantia in Gothica. As such, Carnland was a significant military frontier, with its rivers and mountains forming a solid frontier to the north. As Great Levantia declined, Carnland's major Latin population was either integrated or displaced by Gothic invaders or by indigenous Gaelic tribes. It was conquered again by the nascent Holy Levantine Empire in the 8th century before it was divided in 917, and Carnland was part of the Western Kingdom of the Levantines which eventually disintegrated into medieval polity or polities) in 978. Carnland may have a large Garán population, shared with neighboring Ardmore and Carolina.

Carnland is located on the western coast of Levantia, situated at an approximate halfway point of the continent as it runs northwest to southeast. It has an exceptionally varied topography, with a large coastal plain running the entire western length of the country eventually interrupted by the large Gebir Mountains in the northeastern half of the country. The range, its foothills, and its runoff (forming rivers, streams, and lakes throughout Carnland) completely dominate the interior of the country from a topographical perspective. Several rivers running northeast to southwest into the Odoneru Ocean bisect the country.
The climate of Carnland is subject to upcoming climate reboot.
