Atrassic Union
The "Atrassic Union" (Kiravic: Atraßithūra) is a name given by the press to a proposed economic union between the Kiravian Federacy on one hand and the Mid-Atrassic States (formerly Mid-Atrassic and Upper Atrassic Crona) on the other. At present, the Mid-Atrassic States is a non-sovereign, dependent, overseas country within the Kiravian Collectivity but external to the Kiravian Federacy. The Mid-Atrassic States and Kiravian Federacy are not economically integrated with one another, and they remain separate territories for currency, customs, migration, nationality,[1] and many other purposes. A hypothetical Atrassic Union would involve policy harmonisation between the Mid-Atrassic States and the Kiravian Federacy in one or more such fields, and might entail closer constitutional integration between the MAS and the Federacy or the erection of a new institutional structures to facilitate this process. There is some more remote speculation that Nechaxa might in the future become independent from League-occupied Varshan and seek to become associated with an Atrassic Union in some way.
An Atrassic Union has yet to be formally proposed in a legislative or other political setting. However, numerous policy papers regarding the feasibility and desirability of such a union have been published by think tanks associated with or seen as aligned toward the Federalist Republican Alliance and Coscivian National Congress. The idea has also been covered extensively in the press and has attracted a great deal of political commentary, with many in the Kiravian commentariat expressing strong opinions both for and against an Atrassic Union.
Political positions
For
- Emperor's Strongest Soldiers - The ESS supports outright annexation of the Cronan territories in question into the "patrimony of the Emperor for his ever-greater glory".
- Coscivian National Congress - After the ESS, the CNC has been the national political organisation most openly supportive of Atrassic integration. CNC Chair Devar Tēsugan has stated that "History of Coscivian Nation has always of deepenment and widenment, of expansion concomitant along enspongement. Conquest only still at length of arm? Inevitably futile and greatly Menquoi in character."
- The Federalist Republican Alliance is generally and credibly perceived as supportive of Atrassic integration, and administrations backed by the FRA (Candrin, Ilkaśvar) have taken actions to establish a long-term Kiravian presence in the Cronan territories concerned. Several members of FRA-affiliated parties have proposed the "piecemeal integration" (takótix dakadraktor?) of territorial subunits of Mid-Atrassic Crona into the Kiravian Federacy and acceleration of the process to put in place fully-empowered responsible government in Upper Atrassic Crona.
- Caritist Social Union - The CSU has avoided taking any formal position on Atrassic integration, but according to Delegate Morgan Tsavongiraiv (CSU-Tarunua), general sentiment within the caucus is that "full withdrawal and eventual federalisation are the only acceptable options, and withdrawal will not happen."
Against
- The Labour Front of Kirav is vehemently opposed to Atrassic integration. LFK messaging has concentrated on the potential effects of such a union on domestic manufacturing in Kiravia and on the labour market.
- Union of Democrats & Independents - "An Atrassic Union is not in the interests of the Kiravian people. It is a scheme that has emerged from the smokey backrooms of Federalist Lodges and Kartika's Candrinite policy shops, not from the open marketplace of ideas, where it would surely fail to compete."
- Great Kirav Independence Party - "The Atrassic Union will be the ultimate culmination of the shadow Renaissance Party's half-century-old scheme to make Great Kirav a colony of its colonies."
Notes
- ↑ Citizens of Upper Atrassic Crona hold Kiravian National (Overseas) nationality and are thus Kiravian nationals, per the terms of the Treaty of Electorsbourg. A large number of families hold full Kiravian citizenship in honour of their service to the Kiravian Armed Forces during the Final War of the Deluge.
