Axiom Communications S.A., commonly known as just Axiom and stylized in lowercase as axiom, is a Cartadanian multinational telecommunications conglomerate and is, by revenue and subscriber count, the largest telecommunications provider in Sarpedon and one of the largest mobile network operators in the world. It has 544 million customers across Sarpedon and employs 140,300 people in Cartadania alone, with around 300,000 employees across the continent, the most of which are in Caphiria. In 2024, the group had a revenue of ₹529.24 billion. The company's head office is located in Rosslyn at 4295 Mariner Grande Avenue, though it has operating headquarters in all five countries within its official service area. The current CEO is Julian Hassler.

History

The evolution of Axiom started in 1981 with the establishment of the Veritas, a binational communications company servicing Cartadania and Pelaxia in the mobile telephony, internet, and cable industries, then a subsidiary of Aulia, a conglomerate of companies that spanned from aerospace and banks to electronics and vehicles. Veritas went on to become a sister brand of the identically named bank, Veritas Bank, which still belongs to Aulia today.

In 1985, Aulia explored the idea of launching a telecom company in Caphiria, and in 1988, after acquiring the necessary preliminary equipment and service area, launched an Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) network in Ranaella, called VeroTel. Aulia's buildout of VeroTel's network saw widespread adoption in many areas, and by 1995, was available in much of Caphiria. That same year, both Veritas and VeroTel began deployment and buildout of their cdmaOne networks. The decision to use code-division multiple access (CDMA), a 2G standard that uses a multiple access scheme for digital radio, voice, data and signalling data transmitted via streams of bits (PN codes), separated the two companies from the time-division multiple access (TDMA) GSM carriers of the time (e.g., Alô). Veritas went on to become one of the most reputable and strongest networks in Sarpedon, an accolade that many other companies tried to take.

In 1999, Veritas separated from Aulia as a distinct company, taking a major step as an independent communications company. It's board decided to rebrand the company that same year in preparation for the turn of the century. Thus, on 16 December 1999, Veritas rebranded as Axiom. Defined as a statement that is so evident or well-established, that it is accepted without controversy or question, the name eluded to its place in Cartadania as the "best" mobile network. Axiom also assumed control of its branded divisions for DSL, home phone, and cable over coax from Aulia as well, combining it all under a single company. Similarly to Axiom, VeroTel began separating from Aulia as well, marking the end of an industry for the conglomerate. The adoption of services and buildout in the two markets was markedly different, especially in regards to the adoption of CDMA over GSM in Caphiria.

When Axiom teased the idea of entering the Caphirian market, the marketing causes a frenzy of excitement on both sides from those in Caphiria looking to have the perks and advancement of the network while Cartadanian excitement was primarily around traveling the imperium without the need to swap SIM cards. The board proposed acquiring VeroTel instead of building out a competitive market, especially since VeroTel had once been part of the same conglomerate. Discussions around the matter continued from 2000 to 2003 on both boards to iron out ideas and plans for both markets. In Cartadania, after the conclusion of the discussions, the Public Utilities Commission approved the merger with VeroTel in April 2004 while the Caphirian Ministry of Infrastructure approved the merger in August 2004. The approval came with stipulations to preserve competition between local phone carriers, including investing in new markets and broadband technologies.

Axiom launched 3G service in 2002, which doubled the Internet speed of the time to 615kb per second. It also began offering local, long-distance and mobile calling, as well as Internet service, in a bundle. It was initially only available to customers in Cartadania, Ranaella, southern Pelaxia, and parts of Magenevum. In March 2004, Axiom launched its Beam Internet service, which transmits data over fiber optic cables in Ranaella as part of a pilot and Beam TV in September. After tests and backing from nearly 20 million homes and businesses, Axiom began replacement of existing home services with Beam within its service area. Beam TV had nearly 400 channels only two years after its introduction, and those who already had mobile service through Axiom benefitted from a 30% reduction in bundle pricing.

Axiom went on to deploy a 4G LTE network in 2010, with buildout continuing until early 2023, when the network area reached 100% of Cartadania and Pelaxia, 99% of Aciria and Volonia, and 96% of Caphiria and the system became LTE Advanced in 2017 with continued rollout in Caphiria to bring the service area as close to full coverage as possible. 2023 marked the beginning of rollout for Axiom's 5G deployment, which actually began in Lotoa, Cartadania's state in the Polynesian sea (at the time, territory), with download bandwidth speeds of over 2,000 Mbps in many urban areas. Axiom is unique in that it only uses millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum for its 5G network. While capable of very high speeds, mmWave has limited range and poor building penetration, so there tend to be more antennas in cities to compensate for this, though these antennas tend to be much smaller than LTE and 3G antennas. Beam rollout has continued across the service area, expanding to include availability to much of Pelaxia and the more populous provinces of Caphiria, as well Urlazio.

Corporate governance

The corporate governance structure of Axiom is structured so that all countries have two representatives for their benefit to discuss desires and plans for their respective service area. The chairman of board is also the Chief executive officer of Axiom, currently held by Julian Hassler of Cartadania. Often times, subjects often discussed are around buildout of existing technology or introduction to a new market, such as the introduction of Beam services into Aciria planned for 2030.
