Society & Culture

The primary language spoken in Elegia is Elegian Coscivian, a dialect of Kiravic Coscivian. Kirosocialist language policies to induce dialect levelling and suppress variant local dialects of Kiravic were reversed by the state government in 21189 with the Administrative Language Act, which declared that Elegian Coscivian would be the state's official language and that the written form of the dialect would be treated equally and interchangeably with Literary Kiravic for governmental purposes. The state government has since deepened efforts to develop Elegian Coscivian literature, education, and broadcast media.

Economy

Elegia is classified as a lower-middle income state. Like many inland Kiravian states, it faces persistent development challenges relative to the more highly developed coastal states. Elegia underwent a difficult transition following the restructuring of the Kiravian economy after Kirosocialism and continues to face problems with unemployment, monotown abandonment, rural poverty, and urban blight, although since the late 21190s into the 21200s conditions have improved due to higher growth rates buoyed by emerging service and logistical sectors, and by technologically-driven improvements in agricultural efficiency.

Elegia has major hydropower potential, and hydroelectric projects currently satisfy X% of the state's electricity needs. However, there is much organised political opposition to the expansion of hydroelectrical works by residents of the state's river valleys.
