The Foreign Office (also sometimes referred to as the Foreign Affairs Ministry), is the government ministry of Arcerion responsible for diplomatic missions and international affairs, the administration of foreign policy, and the maintenance of Arcerion's relations with international organizations and nations, especially within Crona and Levantia. It oversees Arcer embassies, consular representatives, and other emissaries representing Arcerion, and assists the Ministry of the Interior with immigration issues and citizenship requests.
History
Pre-Ardmori Revolution
Before the Ardmori Revolution and the dissolution of the Ardmori Crown, Arcer special interests and national policies were enacted abroad by the Crown Governor's Special Emissaries. The de facto ambassadors represented Arcer Consulates across much of Ixnay, until the full independence of Arcerion and the end of the Ardmori monarchy.
Post-Ardmori Revolution
With the end of the Ardmori Monarchy and the end of the Crown Governorship of Arcerion, the Confederate Parliament recalled all Special Emissaries and foreign consular staff in 1949, holding a planning conference and special committee sessions, wherein they established the framework for an international relations bureau.
In their January session of 1950, the Confederate Parliament established the Foreign Office, with guidance for the Prime Minister to appoint a senior diplomatic or consular official to serve as the Foreign Secretary of Arcerion and advise on global affairs, international diplomacy, and global development strategies that would best benefit the interests of Arcerion.
Competencies
As of 1950, the Confederate Parliament has deemed that the Foreign Office should be responsible for a variety of matters concerning Arcerion's foreign policy and relations, including matters of public international law, League of Nations representation, treaties, and Arcerion's international reception in receiving states as well as international organizations such as the Cronan Security and Trade Union. It also grants support for Arcer citizens staying or living abroad and administers foreign aid to nations in need as per government policy.
The Foreign Office is also a primary actor in the economic development of South Crona and the representing, in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance, the commercial interests of Arcerion in Ixnay.
The Foreign Office also serves in a headquarters capacity for all embassies and consulates for Arcerion worldwide.
