Rethys III was a member of the House of Suthar-Màrtainn and briefly held the crown of Fhainnlannachaeran for several months in 1713. He died of an unspecified illness shortly after his coronation, which was considered unsurprising as he had been more sickly than his two brothers. He was the second-shortest reigning monarch in Fhainnin history after Cledwyn Suthar-Màrtainn. He is buried in the Suthar-Màrtainn section of the Royal Crypt in Dúnfhainn.
