Line 1: Line 1:
The office of the Federal Army is one of the six major Offices of Government in the Federal State of Faneria, and operates as the armed forces of the nation. It should be noted that, while called an 'army', it also includes the nation's naval, air, and strategic military assets due to the organizational structure of the Office. Due to its nature as a military force, its hierarchy is radically different to the civilian branches of the government. The Federal Army is the only one of the Six-Office System which responds primarily to the [[Seat of the Directorate|Director]] of the Republic.

The modern NLA consists of several training and support institutions such as attaches to military intelligence services, the various Drill Schools for draftee and specialist training, and permanent logistics units. The maneuver units of the NLA consist of fourteen ''Rhonann'', each of which is based at a regional LAB (Land Army Base). These are:

|}All COs are technically considered officers in the Fhainnin rank structure, and non-officers are referred to as Men-at-Arms. Any soldier can theoretically attain the rank of Captaen, though this typically is reserved for officer training school candidates and higher ranks require such training as a prerequisite. Appointments to the ranks of Lft. General and higher almost always require appropriate political leanings and specialized schooling in addition to the demonstrated competence and leadership qualities expected of the upper echelons.<br />

base pay for a soldier is approximately 30,000 Barra a year for enlisted, 45,000 for lower officers, 60,000 for staff officers, and 140,000 Barra/year for generals before bonuses. Combat awards typically include bonuses of one to ten thousand Barra; campaign medals and ordinary medals do not. Soldiers killed in battle are awarded a year and a half of tax exempt pay to be paid to the willed persons or nearest kin if nobody is selected. Soldiers killed in peacetime for reasons unrelated to existing health issues, disorderly conduct, and suicide are awarded one hundred to one hundred fifty thousand barra over three years. Maimed veterans receive a varying pay of 10-15 thousand Barra per year for fifteen years after discharge, and all combat veterans are entitled to tax-funded mental health services. Veterans and active personnel additionally are additionally exempt from Faneria's railway use tax.

Of the fourteen, five are given the 'Guards' appellation, descended from the 'Republican Guards' designation given to veteran units in the Fhainnin Civil War and later Second Great War. In modern parlance, these units are retained at full strength, while the remaining units are kept in a state of reserve, with between one-third and two-thirds of their on-paper strength active at a given time in peacetime. An individual ''Rhon'' is composed of two to four brigades (bragadtann), which form the actual operational unit for modern operations. These brigades typically have an on-paper strength of six to seven thousand men, or roughly 25-50% larger than a typical occidental brigade. Typically, a given ''Rhon'' will be ordered to furbish one of its constituent brigades, which will be combined with other brigades to form task forces for combat operations. In this system, the role of the ''Rhon'' as a unit is to act as both a mobilization center and a field training center for its constituent brigades, allowing specialist training of troops depending on the unit's base location.

An individual Rhon is composed of two to four brigades (bragadtann), which form the actual operational unit for modern operations. These brigades typically have an on-paper strength of six to seven thousand men, or roughly 25-50% larger than a typical occidental brigade. Typically, a given Rhon will be ordered to furbish one of its constituent brigades, which will be combined with other brigades to form task forces for combat operations. In this system, the role of the Rhon as a unit is to act as both a mobilization center and a field training center for its constituent brigades, allowing specialist training of troops depending on the unit's base location.
