Of the fourteen, five are given the 'Guards' appellation, descended from the 'Republican Guards' designation given to veteran units in the Fhainnin Civil War and later Second Great War. In modern parlance, these units are retained at full strength, while the remaining units are kept in a state of reserve, with between one-third and two-thirds of their on-paper strength active at a given time in peacetime. An individual ''Rhon'' is composed of two to four brigades (bragadtann), which form the actual operational unit for modern operations. These brigades typically have an on-paper strength of six to seven thousand men, or roughly 25-50% larger than a typical occidental brigade. Typically, a given ''Rhon'' will be ordered to furbish one of its constituent brigades, which will be combined with other brigades to form task forces for combat operations. In this system, the role of the ''Rhon'' as a unit is to act as both a mobilization center and a field training center for its constituent brigades, allowing specialist training of troops depending on the unit's base location. | Of the fourteen, five are given the 'Guards' appellation, descended from the 'Republican Guards' designation given to veteran units in the Fhainnin Civil War and later Second Great War. The National Army Land Forces (lit. National Land Army) is the ground warfare component of the Office of the National Army of the Republic of the Fhainn. Its primary duties consist of the defense of metropolitan Faneria as well as peacetime support of disaster relief efforts and infrequent peacekeeping duties abroad. The NLA frequently serves as an OPFOR provider for allied nations and Faneria's Naval Infantry Corps.

Interwar Reformations
Second Great War
Postwar Era
As part of conditions of the Second Treaty of Gaoth, the NLA was capped at five hundred thousand active servicemembers until the repayment of war debts to Fiannria was completed. Regardless, the NLA was in no position to continue its level of militarization after the loss of confidence in the military and the NLA in particular during the war, despite the majority of the blame falling on the upper echelons of the officer corps. Throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, the military degraded considerably, and the NLA was almost entirely stripped of funding and left in an anemic state to keep technological development of new systems funded, despite many of these systems only existing in limited numbers to maintain the domestic arms industry.
