Devahoma is a state of the Kiravian Federacy, located in northern Great Kirav. It contains the Federacy's second-largest city, Escarda.

History

Devahoma was forged in the crucible of two of Kiravia's foundational conflicts: The Cromwelute Wars and the Continental War.

After the Continental War, much of the newly conquered territory in the West was incorporated into the Kiravian Federacy as the "Continental Territory" (Devahomax Skírēn), for which Devahoma became the common name. As Kiravian colonisation of these lands progressed, most of Continental Territory was split off into separate territories, most of which were subsequently subdivided to form the modern-day administrative divisions of Western Kirav. The core area that remained after the separation of the Northwest Territories became a full state of the Kiravian Federacy under the name Devahoma in [YEAR].

Geography

Devahoma is situated between the western Fresh Seas and the foothills of the Western Highlands.

Devahoma has a supratemperate continental climate.

Government

Devahoma is a presidential republic within the Kiravian Federacy.

Devahoma has a bicameral legislature. The inferior chamber, the Legislative Conference, is elected [how]. The superior chamber, the Stanora, is elected [how].

The Continental Party, whether in control of the legislature or not, has been the largest single party in Devahoma since the end of Kirosocialism. Although founded as an anti-Kirosocialist grassroots opposition party in the National Renewal Movement, the party assumed its current form by gradually absorbing the institutional machinery of the Devahoman Socialist Party it had usurped, eventually becoming a establishmentarian, broadly centrist "party of power". It has maintained its consistently major presence in the state government in large part through its ability to mobilise voters in the state's urban centres.

Other active parties include the Order & Justice Party (étatist, Coscivian nationalist), Union Party (conservative), Social Credit Party (social-creditist),

Local Government

The territory of Devahoma is divided into countyships (amtra), which are in turn divided into townships (pelantra). Municipal governments chartered by the legislature - cities/towns (sar), and villages (kōsuv) may be incorporated to govern areas of concentrated settlement. Cities and towns supplete the administrative functions of the township(s) nominally containing them, whereas villages remain under the jurisdiction and responsibility of the township for certain purposes and services. In practice, Devahoman townships function mainly as rural service districts, with most built-up areas being incorporated into a municipality, though many growing exurban areas and a few parts of the Escarda suburbs remain under township governance despite their density of settlement.

The state's primate city, Escarda, has special status under state law as Vèurosar ("prime city"), with a different political structure and more extensive powers than standard city governments.

Society and Culture

The official language of Devahoma is Kiravic Coscivian, and the state is considered the westernmost extension of the traditional Kir-speaking heartland. The Kir dialects spoken in the central and southern parts of the state belong to the Lower Kir dialect continuüm, brought to Devahoma by settlers with ancestral homes in Etivéra, Váuadra, and Kastera. The Kiravic spoken in the Escarda metropolitan area and northern Devahoma exhibits a mix of characteristics, but is usually assigned to the Upper Kir dialect continuüm, brought by settlers with ancestral homes in the Kiygrava and Niyaska. Taństan Coscivian and Antaric Coscivian have substantial speaker communities throughout the state.

Although distant from the heartland of Kiravian Gaelic culture, Devahoma has a significant Gaelic-speaking population, especially in Southside Escarda and Glengarry-Glenross, and strong Gaelic cultural institutions.

As a legacy of its past as the core of the Drail Dominions, Devahoma has a large Urom population, much of which is urbanised. The modern city of Drail, on the site of the old Draili capital, is by far the largest Aboriginal-majority city in the Federacy.

Economy

Devahoma has a strong and diversified economy, the third-largest state economy in the Federacy, following Kiygrava and Cascada.

Escarda and the other cities of northern and central Devahoma make up the western end of the North Kiravian industrial belt. Devahoma is a major producer of electronics, electrical equipment and electrical components, farm machinery, construction components, chemicals, and machined metal products. Devhoman companies are well-known for manufacturing cheaper and more durable alternatives to and "knockoffs" of more upmarket cutting-edge consumer electronics such as printers, cameras, mobile phones, and computer displays produced in Heku and Burgundie. The state is also home to technology companies doing their own R&D, including Lamron Corporation and Taregrant Industries. Brewing is a major industry.

Devahoma has the largest known non-offshore oil and gas reserves in Great Kirav, found mainly in shale deposits and oil sands. More recent developments in extraction and processing technology have made Devahoman hydrocarbon plays more profitable and have opened up new areas to mineral exploration.

Central and southern Devahoma are productive agricultural regions, growing large amounts of cale, potato, wheat, barley, maize, oats, onions, turnips, squash and gourds, cabbage, flax, and feed crops such as clover. As in other regions of Kiravia, hops are an important and high-value crop, meeting the large demand created by the Kiravian brewing industry.
