|The age at which students complete their formal education in Cartadania differs among states and territories, and is typically determined by their date of birth. In general, students finish their secondary education at around 17 years of age, which typically corresponds to their final year in high school. Cartadania's education laws require students to fulfill all state diploma requirements before they can leave the secondary education system. It is worth noting that while some states permit employment for individuals as young as 14 years old, there are age restrictions on the types of jobs they can perform until they reach 15 or 16 years of age. Specifically, employment opportunities for young workers are often limited to family or agricultural activities during this time period.
(* = Varies by state or territory.)

| In 2004 both the school leaving age and the minimum employment age were increased by two years to the current ages. This was coordinated along with the introduction of vocational programs for students in the final two years of the schooling to improve future employment prospects for students of different talents, backgrounds, and abilities. All students are generally expected to obtain a diploma but cannot be held in school six months after attaining the age of majority.

| Students are required to take two years off of school between secondary school and university-level education. Employment can begin at 18, and students can enroll in trade schools at 18 as well. It is encouraged that those seeking university-level education use their two years off of school attend trade school as to have a means of employment without university-level education, though university is still encouraged and, by parents, expected.

As such, the minimum school leaving age and minimum full-time employment age vary by jurisdiction, with the latter almost always equal to or lower than the former. The lowest full-time employment age at non-family, non-agricultural enterprises is 14 (Kyllera) and the highest is 17 (District of Ksoīnvra). The school leaving age is the minimum age a person is legally allowed to cease attendance at an institute of compulsory secondary education. Most countries have their school leaving age set the same as their minimum full-time employment age, thus allowing smooth transition from education into employment, whilst a few have it set just below the age at which a person is allowed to be employed.

In contrast, there are numerous countries that have several years between their school leaving age and their legal minimum employment age, thus in some cases preventing any such transition for several years. Countries which have their employment age set below the school leaving age of 5 years old but (mostly developing countries), risk giving children the opportunity to leave their education early to earn money for their families.
