Hered Defense Systems (HDS) is a Burgoignesc public-state-owned defense contractor specializing in the design, development, and manufacture of advanced unmanned systems and robotics, headquartered in New Torleans, Torlen. It is a major supplier to the Burgoignesc Security Forces and other Levantine Union member states. HDS was founded in 2013, amidst a growing global demand for unmanned systems and robotics technology. The company quickly established itself as a leader in the field, attracting top engineering talent and securing lucrative contracts with the Burgoignesc military. HDS's early focus was on developing innovative solutions for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. Its UAVs quickly gained a reputation for their reliability, advanced capabilities, and ease of operation. In 2019, HDS expanded its portfolio to include unmanned systems for emergency response, particularly for nuclear disaster sites. This move was prompted by the growing need for safe and efficient methods to monitor and decontaminate areas affected by radiation. HDS's expertise in robotics and autonomous navigation proved invaluable in developing specialized UGVs capable of operating in hazardous environments. The company's flagship UGV, the Sentinel, was designed specifically for patrolling and monitoring the Sedane Nuclear Plant Exclusion Zone. Its success in this challenging environment solidified HDS's reputation as a leader in the field of emergency response robotics. In 2021, HDS expanded its product line to include loitering munitions. Recognizing the growing importance of these weapons in modern warfare, HDS invested heavily in research and development, creating a range of advanced loitering munitions with extended flight times, increased payloads, and sophisticated guidance systems. HDS's loitering munitions quickly gained popularity within the Burgoignesc Security Forces, particularly with the Anti-Stagnation Robotic Assault Force (FARA), which adopted the Cuculide (Cuckoo) as its primary interior loitering munition in 2027.

Personnel and organization

Hered HQ building.

Hered Defense Systems (HDS) has experienced significant growth since its founding in 2013. The company currently employs over 12,000 personnel. It is organized into six departments: Research and Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Testing, Sales and Client Relations, and Program Management. Manufacturing is the largest department. HDS maintains a significant physical footprint, with facilities located throughout Burgundie and several key international locations. Its headquarters in New Torleans, Torlen, houses its primary research and development center and executive leadership team. It operates manufacturing plants in several locations, including Sudmoll, Ile Burgundie, and Chaukhira. It is also building a facility in Iles Evangeline. These facilities produce the company's entire range of unmanned systems and components, ensuring a redundant and responsive supply chain. HDS also maintains a network of field offices and testing facilities strategically located near key customer bases, namely Burgoignesc Security Forces bases. These facilities provide on-site support, training, and maintenance services, to ensure client satisfaction and operational readiness. HDS's international presence includes offices and partnerships in several Levantine Union member states, facilitating collaboration and technology transfer within the region.

Products and services

CTC Pelican Drone Terra-carrier

CTC Pelican Drone Terra-carrier

Hered Defense Systems (HDS) partnered with Cross Trucking Company (CTC) to develop the CTC Pelican Drone Terra-carrier, the first-of-its-kind UAV transportation, maintenance, and launch vehicle. The project leveraged HDS's expertise in unmanned systems and robotics, combined with CTC's experience in vehicle design and manufacturing. The Pelican is a 6x6 armored vehicle designed to transport, maintain, and launch drones in the field. HDS played a key role in the development and integration of the drone launch and recovery system, as well as the advanced communication and connectivity features that enable the operation of the drones.

Sentinel

Sentinel UGV in Sedane Centrale.

The Sentinel is an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) designed and used to patrol and monitor the Sedane Nuclear Plant Exclusion Zone in Burgundie. Its capabilities include radiation monitoring, environmental sensing, visual surveillance, autonomous navigation, and data analysis. It is equipped with radiation sensors to continuously monitor radiation levels, providing real-time information on hotspots and potential hazards. It also monitors environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, which aid in assessing the long-term impact of the nuclear accident. The Sentinel's rotating sensor array includes high-resolution cameras and thermal imaging, providing a 360-degree view of the exclusion zone which allows for monitoring of unauthorized entry and assessment of infrastructure. Its systems enable autonomous patrols and exploration to minimize human intervention and radiation exposure. The Sentinel's onboard computer analyzes collected data and generates reports, providing insights into the condition of the exclusion zone and supporting decision-making regarding ongoing monitoring and decontamination efforts.

Cuckoo

The Cuculide (Eng: Cuckoo) is a kamikaze precision strike interior/urban (PSIU) UAV designed for the Anti-Stagnation Robotic Assault Force (Burg: Forsa d'assalt robotica antiestagnacion (FARA)) and introduced in 2027. It uses the XOS operating system, enabling even novice operators to navigate complex spaces. The XOS system integrates with the HERMES Collaborative Combat Network, allowing the Cuculide to utilize and feed real-time battlefield data as well as feed its own sensor data back to the network. It has a modular payload system, allowing for fragmentation, shaped charge, and thermobaric warheads that weigh up to .5 kilograms. A 2031 power supply upgrade increased its flight time to 25 minutes and payload capacity to 1 kilogram. Its 2034 sensor upgrade incorporated advanced thermal imaging, allowing the drone to detect heat signatures behind most walls. The Cuculide utilizes mesh networking, enabling multiple drones to operate collaboratively under a single operator. It can be equipped with a fiber optic data link for secure communication in radio-denied environments. It is designed to conduct precision strikes against high-value targets within buildings, navigate urban warfare scenarios, conduct counter-terrorism operations, and gather intelligence, utilizing its advanced sensor suite and HERMES integration.
